MFC Statement

People should watch the urgent question in Parliament. It is obviously heavily attended by Derbyshire MPs but it is interesting. The response by the stand-in minister is concerning from our point. The whole debate is weakened by not having the Sports Minister available at the dispatch box - but MPs from across the house on record targeting Middlesbrough and its owner. Thankfully Andy McDonald (regardless of what you think of him) made a very important intervention on our behalf. The Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Chris Philp answers with "The statement that the hon. Gentleman just read out from Middlesbrough football club is encouraging, but obviously actions will speak louder than words." (Hansard, 18/01/2022).

That is a government spokesperson suggesting that the action is with us. It is not. The action is with the EFL and the administrators. Ultimately the EFL is a poor regulator of private entities. It is not functioning properly - that needs to be addressed with the fan-led review. In the meantime, if the EFL fail to deal with the situation it is within Middlesbrough FC's power to take legal action against Derby County, another private entity. This was progressed years ago, before the club went into administration.

The EFL will only take action that it needs to if it is pressed. Ultimately the football pyramid will thank Gibson and his legal team for taking this stand.

I hope that Andy McDonald MP writes to the secretary of state, Nigel Huddleston MP for clarification over the governments position in regards to his answer because the proceedings of that urgent question would make me concerned about the government's ability to make the representations it needs to towards the EFL if their position is to put pressure on Middlesbrough and Wycombe over the EFL and administrators. If I were a Derby fan I would have the same concern.

The administrators are shocking, EFL are lame ducks. They are failing Derby and using the claims of Middlesbrough and Wycombe as cover.

It was utterly ridiculous that discussion in Parliament yesterday. Most of those MP's didn't have a clue what they were talking about, and didn't know the full details of the situation surrounding Derby or the legal cases against them. I suppose they have to be seen to be doing something to their constituents, but it really didn't help and I can just imagine Derby fans watching it and frothing at the mouth even more when Middlesbrough was mentioned.

I said on the MFC Statement thread about Andy McDonald. I'm not his biggest fan but he stood up for SG and Boro and called Derby out. It's a shame that a couple of our other local MP's, who claim to be avid Boro fans, also weren't there to ensure MFC aren't continued to be made out to be the bad guys in all of this, which is certainly what seems to be happening in certain parts of the media.

Absolutely the statement seems extremely emotive and bitter. I don't think it serves the club well at all
that's what i thought. i properly worded statement wouldn't have used the word at all. looks like it was dictated to a receptionist and not then checked over

Given the level of literacy and grammar in your post, I'm glad you had no involvement in said statement.

All this nonsense should be directed at the lying cheat who screwed the club and its fans:

Bang on r00fie1.

Absolutely! All MM’s fault entirely.

He has basically **** on us from a great height.
We as fans trusted him. We believed that he must’ve been receiving the correct financial, legal and accounting advice. Surely he knew what he was doing and wouldn’t shaft us (or any other club). That he was a proper man & Rams fan.
It was only when details started emerging about DCFC accounts not being presented & signed off, that we started to get a tad worried.
We, as fans of any club, are not financial experts nor are we totally aware of all rules & regulations. In a way, I suppose we are happy watching our teams every week and aren’t really aware of the above. Until someone/newspaper starts to highlight there may be problems afoot.
I guess we all trust in the custodians of our clubs.

Am desperate for us not to go out of business by 1st Feb. As I’m sure you’re all aware, it’s the fans, creditors, staff & local community that suffers.
In my eyes, it should be MM that takes the compo hit as it was him who did the damage!
The whole EFL rules need overhauling to prevent loopholes/fraud/cheating. And hopefully that will come.
The EFL bleat on (excuse the pun, lol) about new owners/chairmen should be fit & proper. MM appeared to be just that at the outset - to us DCFC fans and also the EFL!
Fast forward a few years>>>>> MM deffo isn’t fit & proper!! He is guilty as hell!

It’s awful that MM allowed the compo claims to drag out for so long. I can’t tell ya the hatred that exists for that man in Derby for all his shenanigans!

My hope is that our Administrators can come to a reasonable amount of compo for Boro & Wycombe before 1st Feb deadline. Then our potential new owners can can be chosen. Understand why they’re unwilling to complete the sale of the club before compo agreed. Cos it is, currently an unknown amount (as admitted by all parties concerned) AND potentially could escalate if not resolved until after new owners bought in. What potential new owner in their right mind would buy a club under those unknown circumstances?!
It would no doubt send us spiralling again. Absolutely no point in that.

Re SOME Rams fans’ comments on various online sites are despicable! They bring shame on our club tbh.
Please let me reassure you, they ARE DEFFO in the minority!
Sadly, every club has its morons!

Dunno if I’ve covered everything. It’s all rather mind blowing tbh. Didn’t ever think we’d be in this terrible position a few years ago.
The love of our football clubs certainly give us a lifetime of being on a emotional rollercoaster.
All part of being a true fan I guess, lol.

Its an awful mess.
We know that our football club is as much a part of us as our heart.
Its in our soul and our blood.
I sincerely hope there is a positive conclusion to this mess.
Maybe then we can look to have a pint in The Waterfall and ware our colours with pride. (y)

Oh I'll check that out mate. Yeah we're all good thanks Blondie, pretty much as you were but obvs not enjoying the Boro/Rams business at all. Seems a long time ago that I could sit in the Neppy with yous lot before a match - hopefully things get sorted and it's back to (some sort of) normal.

This stuff matters. How else would we all know each other?

Keep well mate xx
