Michael carrick into 6/1 second fav

Carrick came close to signing for Boro a few times and I believe he and his family were desperate for him to come at one point when he was younger.

Can't understand why people want Edwards - has basically had one good season at L2 level?

He had one very good half season, if we're being honest.

Forest Green Rovers got 51 points in their first 23 games last season, 1st in the league and 14 points clear of the play-offs in the automatic spots.

In the final 23 games, they got 33 points, which had them 12th in the form table, and that was heavily buoyed by some good results going in to January.
In the final 17 games, they were 18th in the form table with only 4 wins.

They ended it "only" 4 points clear and stumbled over the line from a huge position of strength.

If we’re going to appoint a Rookie then Carrick is worth a try. I’d like Corberan but we don’t have the players to play like Huddersfield last season.

I would prefer Edwards over Carrick. I can't say Carrick fills me with confidence, I always thought he was mentally weak, never turned up in big games and I've never found him very articulate and can't see him of being particularly inspirational.

I would actually prefer Milner despite his lack of coaching experience as he is the epitomy of a professional. I place a lot of importance on fitness and pace and would imagine Milner would be fitness obsessed.

Above all I'd like the new man to be a very good coach and also have enough charisma to get the required buy in from the squad. Not really bothered about their playing career, although someone like Carrick will automatically capture the players attention you would think.

And to be honest, I don't know enough about the most commonly suggested names to have a proper view on who I'd prefer.

Re James Milner I just think of this

Michael Carrick?

There's at least 10 managers who I think we could realistically get who IMO would be better for us.

Carrick has achieved sod all in management.

I'd worry if we punted on Carrick.

I have no idea about Carrick, but I was stopped in my tracks rather by Roy Keane's assessment of him as Man U first team coach. There could be all sorts of personal issues with that assessment of course, but Keane was adamant that Carrick was very poor as a coach.

Edwards would be an enormous gamble. Like needing a CF and signing Hoppe. It would be all about Scott. If the appointment failed - then Scott too would surely be out of the door.

Robins seems quite similar to Wilder in some ways. Excellent at Cov and Rotherham, but less so elsewhere.

I can really see Gibson being pulled here. He loves the old Man U link and a north east name, but he loves the experience route too. But he's got to keep his head boy happy, so I expect Edwards to get the nod.

Seems more like Keane was annoyed that he was on the coaching staff of the previous 2 managers that were ultimately sacked for failing to deliver, and that he'd kept his job when his former teammate hadn't.
Also seemed annoyed that they got 3 decent results under Carrick's management after flopping in Solskjaer's final months, when Carrick was coaching.

Could probably make the same argument against Leo, he's been on the coaching staff of 3 failed managers in a row, but outlasted them.

No idea whether Carrick would be any good as a manager, but I'm not sure Keane's comments were specifically an issue with him.

Allegedly Cooper has one more game to save his skin- Monday night v Villa. Timing could be crucial if it is him we fancy as I believe Leo and crew have been told to prepare for the next 2 games in charge.

They were extremely specific about Carrick.
As I originally posted, there might be other issues re Keane.

Steve Cooper saving his skin? What’s he saving it in, a jar?
