In truth, although he is a “useful” squad player, I think we probably could spend the money on someone whose a bit more specialist at what they do, who might be able to nail down a starting slot in a particular position.

He’s never quite managed that here.

The Gazette are saying that Warnock has offered to take Mendez-Laing along for pre-season and may offer him a long term contract if he can prove his fitness whilst there.

We’ll I’d prefer players who might actually be able to hold down a place. Admittedly finding them is a challenge, but I think after 4 years if Johnson can’t then he probably never will.

Wow, it really is a threadbare squad now. By my reckoning (and a quick check on Wiki) we're probably in the market for:

1 or 2 new keepers
1 or 2 centre halves
A left back
1 or 2 centre mid
3 or 4 wingers
2 strikers

Realistically around 10-13 players away from even having a "normal" sized squad.
