Modric

can't believe Scotland didn't man mark him the whole game, he was just allowed to run the show
Top top footballer pal. Still unbelievable awareness and technique. If they’ve had man marked him they’ve got other players who’s have ran inside and hurt them that way. They were poor against us, but have some very good players. Plus the way he plays makes him difficult to mark. He’s literally all over the pitch and constantly drops deep for the ball.

Although Grealish obviously isn't on the same level, I've noticed his movement off the ball is superb. Like Modric, he's difficult to mark and after releasing the ball he always looks to move into space for the return pass.

Modric was class. Just shows why we had philips and rice in the middle. He never got a kick.

To be honest as glad as I am that Scotland are out it's hardly suprising. Just look at the squad? You have Dykes and Adams up top in a top level international tournament. They wouldn't have been in it without the extra teams and nations league.

Scotland complain about England getting ahead of themselves but we're guilty of that massively. Croatia and Czech Republic are both better teams than them and it showed.

Scotland playing England at Wembley in a tournament after 20 years was their easiest game.

To be honest I think the group games have just shown Scotland up really. Celebrating a 0-0 with England by sniffing them out then getting turned inside out by Czech Republic and Croatia.

I know they are a small nation but they're out now with 1 point. Last week's celebrations look pretty pathetic now.
Was totally predictable aswell. Laughable, really

I've not seen the highlights of the Scotland v Croatia game but a couple of mates of mine who are Scottish watched the game and said Modric just ran the show.

We marked him out the game very well in the first game. He's clearly their most dangerous weapon and I can't believe Scotland did get a grip of him and double up on him. He literally pulls the strings for Croatia.

Hope sourness who described our performance against Croatia as 'average' will see how Gareth got it spot on tactically. As usual Scots got carried away thought they could take on the best by passion alone and lost...

Scotland always had one good game in them. And that was their game-of-a-lifetime 0-0 v England.

It's no surprise to see them lose and go out.

Our win over Croatia was a good one.

People were saying it’s an old Croatia side and Modric is finished. Well most of their good players are late 20’s and early 30’s, which is not old by today’s standards. Modric is 35 but still a brilliant player that looks after himself.

Kovacic is 27, Brosovic 28 etc.. hardly an ageing bunch of players. Some people just read sound bites and believe it to be true. Their only big player who’s getting on is Modric...a regular starter for Real Madrid.

no idea why a lot folk from Scotland seemed to think it wasn’t going to be very big ask for them, it always was. Also I don’t know English folk downplaying the fact we beat them in an opening game and nullified their biggest star.

there’s very few easy games in these competitions, which is why you have the likes of France drawing with Hungary, and Spain sitting on 2 points in a fairly easy group.

Mr Sourness - Football may not be coming home with our team but your team are definitely going home.

Some real Scotland haters on this thread fellas.

In truth Scotland played as well last night as they did against England. Croatia were just better against Scotland than England were.

No real mystery there. Scotland were good against England because England were poor.

I don’t mind Scotland always wanted them to get to the finals. My grandad is Scottish too. I just think they really went overboard with the draw against England as if that was the goal completed, forgetting they had a massive game against Croatia. Shame they couldn’t put up more of a fight but the experience will do them well the next time they are at a big tournament

It will and you are right that the game against England meant a lot to the players, as it should. Hopefully as you say, the experience will improve their tournament play.

I think you're ignoring the motivation factor. Scotland v England was their major (probably ONLY) target. The way they celebrated a 0-0 showed that. Like a non-League side against a PL side, it was their cup final. I don't think England were "poor" and IF Stones had scored that early chance it would have been a very different game. Scotland, as it proved, as toothless, they created some chances but couldn't convert.
