Morrissey open letter to Marr

'Open letters' hark back to the age of crushed velvet loons (mostly they were addressed to George Best or Stan Bowles).

I have a friend who met Morrissey before he was famous. She reckoned he was a horrid little jerk even then. A brilliantly original lyricist in the 80s - extreme, clever and witty - but nothing compensates for being a card-carrying fascist, which he most certainly is. For those comparing his solo output favourably against Johnny Marr's, it's completely irrelevant in my book. Hitler was undeniably a better public speaker than Clem Attlee, so what?

Johnny Marr is a brilliant guitarist, responsible for some of the finest "licks" ever in my opinion. What Difference does it make being just one example. His chord progressions are incredible too - Half a Person springs to mind.

I'm really conflicted over Morrissey, I hate him and everything he stands for (at least the "current version") but I absolutely adore the Smiths and some of his solo output, probably up there as one of my favourite artists.

Once again Morrissey paints a vulgar picture of this charming man that is Marr, I think he hates it when his friends become successful! Both god like genuises in their own ways to the 18 year old me, but as Johnny says very different then and even more so now.

Right in my era this, but for some strange reason I found myself reading Morrissey's statement and wondering what his beef with Andrew Marr could possibly be.

Johnny. I'm sorry. I'd actually forgotten you, your fringe and your jangly guitar. I wonder how stylistically different the Smiths would have sounded with Andrew Marr on guitar?

35 years isn't a lifetime, never mind many lifetimes, it's not even half a lifetime.

People talk about their past, especially if it's interesting, just let them do it.

Morrissey just doesn't like it because he was a d*ckhead, and is even more of a d*ckhead now. He needs a lesson in being responsible for is actions.

The Smiths were great though, one of my favourite all time bands.
