Moving to Florence - recommendations/tips/advice?

I lived there for 4 years from 2010 BN, so happy to answer any questions. Can say that you'll defeintiely have a great time. Very envious now I'm back in London.

Beyond cycling tips, let me know what I can help with.... you jammy b****d!

LaPenna, I imagine there'll be an FAO or two out for you while I'm there. Feel free to recommend any hidden gems or spots you really liked. All welcomed.

Zoophonic, cheers for that mate, some really good food for thought.

BN - One of my sister in laws is Italian/Sardianian, she came to London to learn/improve her English and ended up marrying my brother. Going the Sardinia for their wedding was interesting, they had organised a few trips for a big group of us with English speaking guides etc and we went off the beaten track in Land Rovers up into mountains, down a spectacular cave etc. Even so I wish I could speak with a lot of the locals when I was wandering about in Cagliari.

Beautiful part of the world, but got knackered driving up some of the hills let alone cycle them to the east.

I've been a fair few times but last year was the first year I'd actually cycled in that area... as someone already mentioned, south of Florence is fantastic for cycling.... I'd highly recommend .... https://www.ontheroadinchianti.com/ ... they were excellent, rented a bike, got some great ideas for routes and really friendly... a great introduction to the kind of cycling you can do in Chianti

Some really useful and helpful stuff fellas, cheers for all the positive messages.

Wurzel - I'll fao you in Italian if I pick up enough of the lingo. (y)

Still, any hidden gems, bars or restaurants, fire away

Never been but I'm jealous. It's somewhere I've wanted to go since I got chatting to a couple of waitresses years ago. They had been practically everywhere in Europe, having spent a good few years just travelling and getting temp jobs. They had been to most countries and many many cities/regions. Their absolute favourite place was Florence.

Yeah it's been a weird left field ambition of mine for years. Never thought I'd actually do it. Apparently notoriously hard to make friends though so we'll see...
