Mr Preston is standing again!

Being tied to political party like labour or Tory may influence peoples decision making. Unfortunately local politics are just a pound shop version of westminister.
No, it's the opposite - especially in local government as it's easier to infiltrate. You could use Andy Preston as an example. He's spent a lot of his own money because he wanted to be mayor of Middlesbrough. That same amount of money or even ten or fifty times as much probably wouldn't be enough to get in Westminster. But why is he doing it? To help Middlesbrough - a town he wouldn't live in or send his children to school in? What does he get out of it? Especially when he and his associates have many personal commercial interests within the area.

Any organisation is going to involve collective decision making and agreement if it is to function properly. Arguments are won and lost in a collective and transparent manner. Political parties have codes of conduct and standards to abide by. Independents don't have this, they could be literally getting paid by anyone or doing anyone's bidding. Of course, it can happen with political parties, but the collective aspect with rules and regulations that have evolved over time make it much more difficult.

Well clearly have an insiders knowledge, but as an overview labour has served this area poorly, don’t know if we’ve ever had a Tory council tbh.

Lol

I had picked up on that so was well aware you might come back with that noncence answer

So Labour are going to wait 14 days before a mayoral election to announce their agenda? 🧐

And yet I don't think their is anymore policies and you're dancing around the truth pretending there's some big plan

Why did the mayor call you "dishonest"?
We are still waiting for Preston's yet, but that appears to have passed you by. Can't think why.

What concerns me is the people who don't live here haven't even considered the alternative.
They've blown so much smoke up their own arses (that Preston) will be out that they haven't bothered to look at Labour

So rather than wait for them to be in shock if Preston gets re-elected they can at least see that a Labour councillor is telling us that we should vote Labour because the candidste lives behind Heron foods and for chats. Oh and he also says we will hear more in the coming weeks 🤦‍♂️ i take it Labour don't know the election is in 4 weeks?

I think people who don't live here ST and WG enjoy sh!tting on the people who live here
@WeeGord ☝️

People who moved away have valid views, perhaps the fact that Middlesbrough is rapidly declining under Preston is part of the reason they left?
Some evidence of that then that isn't caused by
Pandemic
Tory government
Russia
Cost of living

The word conspiracy gets bounded around these parts yet when it suits certain parties it's fine. Am I in the wrong in saying that certain folk on here are basically saying Preston is skimming public money from public funds for himself but they can't say that out loud for fear of reprisals?

You saying you think I want to **** on the folk of Middlesbrough @Randy ?
Nope.
I'm saying people are so desperate to get rid of someone and replace them with someone else who's only plan so far (according to Lodger) is to talk to the residents of Middlesbrough is bonkers. All 391,000 of them? And what else? What's the plan?
Where's the vote for ending the whole mayor thing?

Where do I fit in here Randy? I moved away for thirty years. I'm back here now, but I don't live in Middlesbrough. Am I allowed to have an opinion or not?

Nope.

As has already been pointed out, Preston hasn't released his manifesto as of yet and Middlesbrough is in as desperate a place as its been in a long, long time.

Voting for more of the same isn't going to improve things.

And voting for someone else with no plan could do the same too.

Only one manifesto should be scrutinised, and that’s Andy Preston’s from 2019:

For some reason I can’t find it……

He said he was going to clean up Cleveland police, it’s still the worst in country

He said he’d set them targets, not heard anyone mention any targets he’s set

He said he wanted orchards so kids could pick fruit…….

He promised 1000 new homes in the town centre. Can’t find how many has been built. Only him banging on about 174 in Gresham

He said he would visit 200 sports club over 4 years to promote healthier living. Can anyone verify that? Children with 100% attendance get free access to council stuff. Not heard anything about that

He said all money from the council would be spent locally. Can this be verified?

He said he would end town hall secrecy, if anything it seems to have got worse.

So a man who pledged a lot, but barely delivered on any of it from what I can see. You can see why his manifesto isn’t easy to find…..
