My 11 year old tested positive for covid this morning

My 14 years old son as tested positive twice in the last 3 months at the begin of November and then again a week ago. He wears his mask everywhere and as had his first jab but can’t get his second until after 12 weeks of testing positive
Same here, his isolation ended 2nd Nov so can't have his first jab until next week.

She is beside herself. I am not sure if she is worried about not seeing her friends for a week or frightened about the virus.

Had a good old cry this morning, my daughter, that is, not me.
Hope she’s ok laughing, it’s awful that all this has got even 11 years olds in a state about it.

If it helps my whole Familly and all of my in-laws (should that be hyphenated?) got it over Christmas and all were fine. We suspect we had it, but were in the canaries and couldn’t get lat flow tests, so stayed away from people for five days. Again, funny headache and a sore throat Was all.

fingers crossed should be fine.
my 4yr old got it 2 weeks ago, on the final day of her quarantine I caught it, a day later my 6 yr old tested positive, and then 2 days later the wife.

so between us the quarantine has lasted 2 weeks

I'd get testing yourself if I were you. If you're gonna get it best find out asap and get the clock started on the isolation period. My entire household has it, but I tested negative for 5 days after the first child got it. Which means it'll likely have been 15 days in total before we can all go out together now.

The reduced 5 days isolation is just a bit of a nonsense (suspect it's just a hollow sop to certain Tory backbenchers) I don't know anyone who's had it who's then tested negative on day 5. The vast majority still tested positive on day 10.
My lad tested negative on day 5 and 6 to be allowed out of isolation. Its a weird thing as when he got it in October he tested positive on lft in the morning, tested positive on PCR in the afternoon (back in the day when you were supposed to do PCRs) then tested negative on lft the following day.

The Mrs tested positive this time on both lft and PCR and again negative by day 5 and 6 to come out of isolation, but back in October was still positive on lft on day 5.

It is a weird virus

You feed your kids sprouts? Surprised he hasn't emancipated himself.

I love sprouts, for the record, little baby cabbages.
Sorry Laughing meant to say hope your daughter is feeling better.

PS I've won him over to sprouts by frying them with a little bacon, they are now his favourite part of a Sunday dinner!!!

Myself and the eldest still testing negative this morning after 7 days from my wife's and middle child's positive test. They are both still testing positive this morning. Pair of them have had zero symptoms throughout other than boredom.

Is it right that they are free to leave the house come Sunday morning?

If they have isolated for 10 days then yes they can leave the house even if they are testing positive on lft..... they wouldn't be contagious by that point... Keep testing them though might be able to escape a day or 2 early like I did....

Thats good going. Must be something in the genes there!

Wish I could be so lucky. I'm on day 7 and still positive. No symptoms whatsoever now. Looking increasingly likely it'll be another weekend written off 🙁

Laughing - I hope you daughter gets over it very quickly.
And the same goes for all you others who have recently picked up .Covid

I wouldn't mind getting it to be honest. Had 3 jabs, the booster about 8 or 10 weeks ago. A little infection would act as another booster jab for me before the booster wears off.
This is such a bad take but it seems to be the one being pushed a lot at the moment - presumably as part of the nudge towards "herd immunity".

The problem is we don't know anything about how Covid might affect our health in the future.

They're finding more and more links between Flu and Alzheimers, for instance.

I'm glad my bout of Covid after Xmas was asymptomatic, but I'd rather have not caught it at all.

If you're testing positive on an LFT then there is a 5% likelihood you're still contagious after 10 days, even if you have no symptoms.

If you are testing positive and also have symptoms then you should continue isolating until the symptoms have cleared.

Thanks Nobby. Yeah it's been really difficult these past few days them not been able to get out and about. But it's a good thing we are vaccinated twice or thrice and the kids have great immune systems.

@Laughing, hope she's better soon mate.

My daughter has had a cough and sniffles for a few days, not sure if she has Covid or a cold. She’s only 16 months so testing is difficult. Me and my Girlfriend have both tested regularly and are negative.
Anyone tested a very young child or is there no point?

Thats correct Randy, on day 10 the tests don't matter anymore... No idea what the logic behind that is though.

It's a valid point Scrote. My thinking is more to do with I would rather catch it whilst my protection from the booster is still reasonably high, I think most will end up with omicron at some point.
