Nathan Wood Gordon

True. But I just feel he is going to be such a top player, it would be good for him to play at a high level. However, I suppose games are the most important factor really.

SPL would be a good move and test him far more than Under 23s.

We have to be realistic - he struggled at Crewe recently, he won’t get a game at any championship or top league 1 club.

Hearts would be a great move. The SPL is a physical league and will do him good.

If we don’t go up this season we’ll cash in on Fry, and (hopefully) Wood will be a ready made replacement. Think we need to get him tied down to a new contract first though.
I agree about Hearts. He would learn a lot from playing against senior strikers every week, and Hearts will fancy themselves for a European push. There will be pressure there and he will have to play well. The only worry with him is that he emerged very young and has spent a long time watching on, not playing senior football. He should've been out on loan with Darlington at 17, 18 for a few months IMO, like Gibson was out with York as a teenager. I think Gibson probably had about 50 or 60 senior games under his belt by the time he got into our team. Wood just needs to be playing games instead of being a squad man.

Really? I thought he did well at Crewe and started most games. Are you sure you're not thinking of Walker?

There was a Crewe journalist in the Gazette a while back saying their manager liked to rotate his team and although Wood did look good when he played he was just another member of the squad. Maybe Boro need to try and ensure he is going somewhere where he starts 35-40 games next time, instead of being in and out, but it is hard to get a club to agree to that in advance I guess.

Yes it's concerning that he only has one year left. Would be criminal if we lost him for a tribunal set fee.
