National Lockdown from Wednesday

It would be a sensible thing to do from a healthcare capacity point of view, though economically would be a disaster. We still have 4 months of winter to go and ITU beds are already getting congested with people suffering from Covid. My fear is that the cat is already out of the bag and we are in for a really bad winter, unless a vaccine proves effective soon.

The times have a front page splash on it tomorrow. Looks like there will be a press conference on Monday.

4 week lockdown with everything closing except essential shops, schools, nurseries and universities.

The problem is people mixing in eachother’s homes, and regardless of any mini lockdown, circuit breaker or whatever else they want to call it, the selfish amongst us will continue to do as they please, as they have done since March.

No doubt taxis will still be able to operate without scrutiny and the issue will remain, and then once the restrictions are lifted it will gradually get worse again.

The problem is colleges and universities, but this useless government don’t have the political appetite to close them.

Dno about colleges but our kids uni is entirely online. Hasn’t seen anyone in person in weeks. Hardly seems “the problem”
