Netflix stopping password sharing

Not really. Their competitors eg Amazon, Disney, allow password sharing. In fact, Netflix are the only TV streaming service that doesn’t.
ah, ok ref Spotify comparison
It’s a fair cop in the sense they do t allow it and we’ve been rumbled tho

Suppose it’s their business - they can do what they want and we have a choice

Binned them off almost a year ago now because I read this was coming in, it’s disgraceful to be honest, pure greed.

I don’t know if it’s changed now but their packages are awful for a company that doesn’t allow you to share passwords. Why is/was the only package that has 4K also the package that is targeted for 4 devices(clearly aimed at password sharing)? As a 2 person household where we are rarely watching Netflix at the same time, why can’t I pay for 4K with 1 device at a time for much less?

Maybe they’ve changed their packages now, I wouldn’t know because they lost me as a customer with this nonsense.

It’s still the same.

The entitlement is strong in this one…

Funny how your argument is suddenly centered on their tax liabilities. They pay whats due i imagine, its on the government to address any perceived shortfall. Do you voluntarily pay more tax than required?

I dont get the rage? People have literally had a free pass for years and netflix have, as they are perfectly entitled to do, said enough is enough. Instead of saying you had a good run youre apoplectic over a few quid a month. Lets face it most of their content is rubbish. If you feel so strongly then unsubscribe and use a competitor. Its weird you’re so upset over it

I too don’t understand the outrage. They are a business, their aim is to make profit. I get fed up of people trying to play the system. It really is simple, pay the fee or don’t, there really is plenty of choice out there, and being a business they will live or die by their decisions, same as any other business. The greed argument on the company can equally be turned around and used on the customers who password share for nothing, although I dare say some will split the cost to save on fees. If you like netflix and share now, an extra £4.99 doesn’t sound unreasonable between the sharers. 🤷‍♂️

Their tax affairs are a completely separate issue obviously, and of course firms will strive to pay as little tax as possible but last year Netflix already voluntarily moved it's payment processing from Amsterdam to the uk and therefore paying more tax, which is mentioned in most articles quoting the figures mentioned in the threads but oddly omitted as doesn't support the narrative.

Except that option isn’t available to people who get Netflix through Sky, Virgin etc. because they haven’t thought it through properly.

You can't give people an account under your account but that makes sense as you're receiving the account at a heavy discount already? Or do you think they should get both the subsidy discount and cheap additional users?

Nothing stopping them taking out a standard price account if they want sub accounts or to stop the child accounts getting their own account. But you can't expect it both ways.

We have the multi device one, we don’t share passwords but myself and the Mrs are often working away (at different times) in different places, I’ve been thinking of binning Netflix for a few months as I’m finding most of the recent new content is utter turd. If I have to bother authorising stuff every time I log on somewhere else it will definitely get binned off.

How do you know there’s a ‘heavy discount’? You have evidence for that?

You won't have to, as per earlier in this thread if you're away for months on end and not on the same network or something it may ask you to authorise occasionally, which is hardly a hardship. If you're away for a few days or go on holiday or whatever it's not going to lock you out

Yes I've got evidence of that, via the gift of 5 seconds on google. it's used as a retentions sweetener so some people pay even less but basic Netflix is free and the premium ones are heavily discounted on both sky and virgin. so you can't expect a heavy discount and to share your account out as well.

Sky
Sky provides Netflix Basic at no extra cost with its subscriptions. Updating to the Standard plan costs £4 and Premium is £8

&
Virgin
This binge-worthy upgrade includes a Netflix Standard Plan, which usually costs £10.99 a month and allows subscribers to watch content on two devices simultaneously in full High Definition. Anyone wanting pin-sharp 4K and the option to watch on more devices at once can upgrade to the Premium Plan for an extra £5 per month – that's not bad value considering the Premium Plan usually costs £15.99.
