It may well be the same red. I just think gold needs a darker shade of red to look classy as some of the AI created images on this thread prove. I have no doubt it’s the yellow/gold making it look lighter in the same way white would give a darker impression

It should have been a darker red and the sponsor should have been gold imo.

White badge and white trim could still save it.

Yeah.
Before we got promoted in 74, not a lot of people outside of Ayresome Park would have known whether we played in all red, red with white shorts and socks, or what pantone reference we used.
And then when we got promoted, MOTD and The Big Match exposed us to a national audience - on colour TV - with a white band.
So that became our accepted identity. Even if it was only a couple of years old.
