New Boro Kit

I agree the home kit is not typically Boro - we have never used Gold on a home strip. I prefer V neck and badge to the side. I am not one that wants the white band year after year. Probably best to stick with red and a bit of white and possibly some black trim.

The away strip I do like, using the blue polka on white and a silver badge, with v neck. It feels quite special and something that will be remembered and cherished in the future. It has a connection with the first ever kit which I see as a positive.

A few people have said it’s unrealistic to expect Boro to produce a fancy, detailed anniversary shirt while still keeping it competitively priced.

Well, take a look at these shirts - priced only a tenner more than Boro’s.

A tenner seems to buy an awful lot of extra detail, doesn’t it?

For context, Società Sportiva Dilettante Tivoli Calcio 1919 are an Italian club from Tivoli, Lazio, currently playing in Eccellenza - the fifth tier of Italian football, roughly equivalent to the National League in England.

So if a fifth-tier Italian club can produce something with this much thought, detail and identity, i don't accept that a club like Middlesbrough Football Club couldn’t possibly have done better for a 150-year anniversary shirt

To be critical the Italian kits look very dated - extremely 1995 - that cheap polyester too.
To badge looks like its been ironed on and is too close to the collar.
The integrated design looks like a medieval tapestry design, which appears to have special meaning to be club, but I wouldn't like it in a Boro shirt even if it was from the de Brus family at Skelton Castle.

£70 is not National League prices.

I don't think anyone has a problem with the kits in that they think they are hideous or anything (most people, there'll always be some). They just aren't recognisably Boro kits.

The home kit is fine but it's just a generic red shirt which could belong to any other club which plays in red. For the 150th year it should have been the sort of kit you'd recognise as a Boro kit even without a badge and it just isn't. With the new badge this was such an easy one to get right. They didn't have ot do anything particularly adventurous. Just a plain red top, white band, gold badge and some gold trim. Easy. They could have at least had the sponsor in gold so it's less of an eyesore.

The white shirt is fine but it looks far too much like Preston and it just misses the mark from what they were after with the blue polkadot collar inspiration. Why leave the collar plain and put the polkadots elsewhere? Why have the badge and Castore in silver but not the sponsor? If he sponsor has to be dark then why not make the sponsor polkadot as well? It just seems like they've wasted an open goal.

The yellow is fine but it seems that not everyone likes yellow but I don't think it is a big issue. That's more of a preference thing, although the colour combo including the dark colour on the sleeves is very Oxford.

The blue one is ok but surely as a one-off it could've been sponsorless.

That exactly it. They miss the mark. With simple kits you have to get the details right.

Home Kit: either go with a gold sponsor or keep the badge and trim white and have white shorts. Disappointed we didn’t opt for a much darker shade or red.

Away Kit: It’s a poor effort the polka dots on the panels is such a compromise.. it defeats the whole point of doing it in the first place. If those home shirt doesn’t have a band.. then the away one should at least. Red on white? You need to keep the clubs identity in there somewhere.

3rd shirt: sublimated lion on a yellow shirt.. if this was the one to go bold on don’t chose yellow ffs! Just seems like a waste of an effort. The Maroon and Green was screaming out to be remade in some form. Something that connected with the club or the town’s history and identity.

150th anniversary: the gold would have really popped on a navy shirt.. there was such a big deal made about the gold and we hardly bothered with it. This could have been the shirt to put the Erimus badge on. People wanted the 86 badge back yes.. but the anniversary should have been the Erimus badge.
 
Having just been to the Stadium I can confirm all 4 shirts are much better in the flesh.

The yellow one is surprisingly nice with the lion pattern really standing out.

The home shirt has a square pattern woven into it which takes away the otherwise plain look while the ‘white ‘ one which is more of an off white, is a thing of beauty and would be my choice if I were to choose one.

This is one of the main reasons we are so inflexible with the way we do everything because of this pig-headed decision that the club are too stubborn to change.
