New Regent Cinema in Redcar

Problem is the cinema sizes, there's 3 - 90, 60 and 30 seats if I remember correctly. So it looks like it's too small for a big chain to take over and not fanacially viable for an independent owner. So it looks like it might be empty for a while.

Personally I think they should have been better building one large screen that could also be used as a theatre like the one at Yarm school. Or they should have built a proper multiplex where the old leisure centre was. Seems like it was built without any research.

You'd be surprised on how much is spent on consultants when it comes to these developments, and the utter tosh they produce

Are there three screens? seems a lot for a relatively small venue.

I do some work at Arts Centre and we have around 130 seats in our small cinema screen - we have been running some independent films with only 15 tickets sold - we are lucky to sell over 30 tickets per showing for Indie films. We are run to some extent by volunteers and gain Arts grants. The Blockbusters bring in the bigger audiences (Downton Abbey, James Bond). The main overhead costs are met by events in the theatre not cinema screen, like Pantos, Tribute Bands, plus there is a restaurant and cafe.

90 seats is on the small side for blockbuster films which bring the cash in especially somewhere like Redcar.

I would have though having a screen that can take live events like Comedy Club/Small theatre would have been useful. We always sell out friday night comedy and do well at the bar.
