Submariner lad in a Boro top states “ I was born in Teesside”.
My missus (who’s an English teacher) says it should be “I was born on Teesside”.
Who is correct?

He's not saying he was born on the banks of the Tees though. Teesside is being used as a place name, like Manchester or Norwich.

You wouldn't say I was born on Manchester so for my money born in Teesside is correct.

He was wearing a boro top so must be south of the Tees. Everyone knows north are all Mackems.

"He was wearing a boro top so must be south of the Tees."

Except for those South of the Tees wearing Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United or Leeds tops that is.

Royal Navy have used young people from a quoted Carlisle, Blyth, Scarborough, Teesside in recent years. All left behind areas in the North of England (strong BREXIT voting towns). Most adverts nowadays use a a variety of ethnic backgrounds, but not the RN adverts.
