Next through the Door has to be

What happens if all 3 keepers get Covid so we have to play an oufield player ?
definitely wouldn’t shock me if Henderson came . Then made permanent in the summer or year loan 😉

I just can't imagine how you can arrive at a figure of 15 points. It's not likely to be anything like that. But in an ideal world, where you had an unlimited budget, a new brilliant goalie would save some points, that's undeniable. But you'd have to spend an awful lot of money to buy a brilliant goalie.

In terms of points return on transfer money spent, a good striker would return far more points. Boro's weakness is scoring goals, and everytime the team fails to score, it's at least two points lost. The biggest scorers are almost always promoted to the Prem League.

With three goalies on the books it doesn't seem likely to me that Chris Wilder would want another.
Randolph would have earned us at least 15 points over a season

Did he even touch the ball today ?

And an estimated £3 million quid plus for himself. Henderson on on about 6 million for the season . No doubting both players would make a difference but the cost Is massive and I argue our limited resources are better spent elsewhere

3 million would be far better spent on a keeper over any other position for us, Lumley will cost us time after time he simply just isnt good enough. We saw with Randolph the difference a good keeper will make compared to a poor one over the season. Would hope we would go for someone like Woodman, wages wont be anywhere near that

Imagine Lumley in a playoff final, he would fall apart

I think Henderson’s desire to play on the build up to a World Cup year could make him consider his wages . Not that means Hel come here but there may be no demand for him in the prem in this window

So, apart from Randolph, (who left us for more money to become a number three!), name a goalkeeper we should sign…

How do you come up with that number?

How many have we conceded under Wilder? Six in his eight games, three of those goals conceded in games we have won anyway so even if the keeper had saved one of those we'd have won anyway. So you have the draw against Millwall and the loss to PNE that might have been affected by a better keeper. Perhaps another two points? That's without looking at the circumstance of those goals. Millwall game the ball was deflected in off Sol Bamba nothing any keeper can do about that it's just luck. I seem to remember a Bamba slip against PNE, the match summary tells me that PNE had two shots on target. So perhaps a better keeper in the Wilder side gets us one extra point.

Certainly not a priority.

I've seen better keepers than Lumley beaten like that, it happens.
Why are you just looking at games under Wilder? Games existed and points were won and lost under Warnock as well and against some of the teams above us at that. The 15 points is not just about adding points on to our total, it is about reducing points opposing teams gained too, If we turn a draw into a win that is an extra 2 points gained but it is also a point lost by the opposition, so a 3 point turnaround in one game. A defeat into a draw is 1 point gained but 2 deducted from the opposition etc. 5 saves a season or 5 less errors (in Lumleys case) can make a significant difference over a season.

A quality goalkeeper is a big influence on a team. It isn’t just about saves, it is about how defenders behave too, defenders are less jittery with a reliable keeper and less likely to make mistakes themselves imho.

Randolph for example made many a good save to protect results. Saves made in games affect outcomes and confidence. Outcomes of games where you win by 2 or more can be due to a save at 0-0 that stops you going behind and confidence knocked and chasing. You can not just look at the games you lose. I strongly believe I am right on the importance of a keeper. not enough fans understand that sadly and think its all about scoring goals.

A quality keeper for me remains a priority

I’ve seen woodman mentioned a few times, he’s looked ok but not great when I’ve seen him but certainly nothing special and I wouldn’t call him an upgrade. I looked up his stats and he appears to be one of the worst keepers in the league stats wise, only a 47% save percentage. Absolutely not what we need. For reference Jason Steele has much better stats and a save percentage of 60%.
If we get a keeper it needs to be a big upgrade not another same/same ok keeper.

i don’t see a new keeper happening in this window. Why would Wilder recall Sol Brynn from his successful loan spell if he thought we needed an upgrade?

For those who talk about Randolph, his distribution was not good, and the game (and our game) has moved on. Distribution is now the #1 attribute of a keeper so I'm not sure Randy would have saved us many points or maybe wouldn't in the future.

Good teams have good goalkeepers .
we’re decent with a decent keeper, but if we want to progress we do need to upgrade
