Nissan to stay.

And produce EV batteries in Sunderland.

This is double good news. The second in command says the decision to build the batteries and redefine how cars are built in the UK is directly linked to brexit.

Hopefully other car makers will see and follow suite?

Is it Nissan MMUK manufacture? I thought they sold their battery plant to the Chinese company Envision AESC.

Good news this, unemployment isn't going up as far as it would have without an agreement. It's still going to rise due to Brexit.
True, lots of other industries are hit hard. However this is good news for the future because demand for EV batteries will definitely grow. On smaller scale it's also good news for the region

I think it's rather not so much good news as not bad news, they'd said that they were staying, then that they may leave with no deal. We're back where we were. However, something that's not bad news is better than most of the other crap that's been going on so two cheers.

Shock horror - Anyone would think that the "unnamed Nissan executive" published in the German motor magazine stating that they planned to close Sunderland was made up. Not that Brexit negotiations or anything like that were at the crunch point at the exact same time...... must just have been a bizarre coincidence

Too be fair he said if they was no deal, we have a deal, not one that anyone wanted or hoped for but its still a deal.

Fair play to SmallTown for posting the story as good news, with no spin.

It's a shame that there can't be this without someone coming along with a bit of needle and "told you so", but you've got to expect that from some people.

Great relief for the workers at Nissan and the wider supply chain that depends on them.

Hopefully they will continue to invest as they say before we get into the diesel ban.

From a positive to a negative, in 3 easy steps, yea but, no but

Good news for all concerned and completely explains why no deal could never have been allowed to happen and why most people knew it wouldn’t

I think part of this decision could be based on Teesside becoming a free port, as it would significantly improve their ability to import and export components and vehicles and possibly provide tax benefits
