No prospect of that 'best ever' US trade deal anytime soon then

I remember Gove going over to meet Trump not long after his election win. They sat and proclaimed a trade deal would be quick and the best ever. The smarminess of Gove was awful.

5 years later and still no sign of a deal…

Utter shambles.
Yet another outright failure.
Do we have any Brexit supporters on this board?
Please stand up.

If only there had been some sort of experts to tell us this was the case, and to shine light on the complexities and time lines of trade deals and our place well down the pecking order of the trade deals the US wanted to do.

What’s that you say? There were experts, plenty of them, but the Mail and Express and Sun and Talk Radio shock jocks etc etc kept pumping out the message that the experts can be ignored because they are ‘all the same’ and ‘always wrong’ and it’s all just project fear and and and….. oh.

Our only hope is that Trump wins the next election 😞

careful @BoroFur you'll get the brexiteers complaining about non-football threads again
This isn't a football forum at all it's a forum with some football threads
I don't think any 'Brexiteers' are complaining about non football threads, unless you could name any, I certainly couldn't

I can see the Brexiteers with their little Union Jack flags and boxer shorts shouting at the telly this morning. No this can’t be true - more lies spread by those REMOANERS I bet. Johnson has an ‘oven ready deal’ he told us all that time and time again and he doesn’t tell lies. Everyone will want to trade with us he said - we will have them queuing at the door when we leave that nasty EU, boy will they be in a mess when we starting pushing our weight around. Britain will never have had it so good - oh and Northern Ireland will have no artificial borders and the NHS will get £350 million a week. That so many sensible people believed this charlatan and marched over the hill arm in arm with the racists will haunt this country for generations to come

Haunt and harm.

I'm not seeing no trade deal with the USA as a bad thing. It's been shown that it would have hardly any benefit to the UK economy. BloJo and Co want the deal purely for symbolic/political reasons and they'll sign anything put in front of them to make themselves look good from that point of view. with a deal we'd end up aligning our food standards with the USA which would be a massive hammer blow to our own food producers and would see us with unlabelled food containing hormone enhanced meat and even worse food full of high fructose corn syrup on the shelves.

This is good news (and I am/was a Remainer). The Americans would take us to the cleaners on trade (already do, probably) as they are another country (like France) that looks after its own. Unlike some other countries...

If you’d seen that pr1ck Lord Hannan on Newsnight last night being condescending and disrespectful to the young Congressman then it will be even later than Johnson could ever imagine.

As the UK has with Australia which is just as bad. As an aside it’s funny how this pandemic has made you reappraise what you thought of certain people and countries. Although I’ve been there loads of times I never realised that Australia was full of RWNJ’s and had very poor animal welfare standards, especially as they seem to pride themselves on their meats. Although had I stopped to think long enough it would be obvious they would have to pump animals with something as the vast majority of it is barron.
