Northallerton

A lot of screbs have moved in there unfortunately. It’s lost it’s small market town community feel, where everyone knew each. Lots of new builds going up, it’s going to end up like a smaller version of Ingleby Barwick

Like nearly all towns nowadays. I suppose it is sad but as the population increases there needs to me more homes for people to live in. I get what you mean though, it has changed a lot over the last 20 years.

Depends on how far people are going back but in the last 20 years there’s been one new development in the centre of the town where an old factory was, one on the outskirts where the old York trailers factory was, and the new one on fields where the bridge is. Nothing really compared to many similar sized towns, and certainly better that it was mostly just brownfield sites.

As for the previous poster about it being like a smaller Ingleby - very strange assessment.

Presume he just means stable/rising property values, low crime and a good community all coupled with good local facilities.

I was more referring to how the feel of the town has changed but yes, the recent housing estate is the largest and has prompted a lot of changes.

I moved to Northallerton 9 years ago from Norton and i think its great. The High Street has really transformed in that time - the pubs have gone from traditional local style pubs to a mixture of traditional & trendy bars, lots of good places to eat and more to come on the old prison site.

More and more housing development is happening as to be expected with so much land. It wont be long before Northallerton and Brompton fully merge.

like all towns and villages it has some really nice parts and some really bad parts - same with the people. One thing i will say and its probably more noticeable because it is a smaller place is the amount of drugs and drug related issues, however, this isnt a Northallerton issue, this is an issue everywhere.

All in all - its a great place to live, close to enough built up places to get the things you cant here. Excellent rail access and close to both the A1 and A19. I don't regret moving here
