We've had other dodgy keepers, but it's usually fumbling crosses, or poor distribution etc, Lumley and Betinelli are by far the worst we've had at the fundamental basics of saving shots at goal. Brad Jones used to get derided but at least he could make saves.

Agree, they are far worse than Jones. I really hope we sign Darlow, think he would quickly win doubters round. He would be one of best in the league for me

They can be if the coaching staff think they're good enough. But we also had Spence and Dijksteel on the right. Saying "let's just go with Jones and hope for the best" would've been negligent.
 
The times I've seen Darlow I've not been impressed, at all - bog standard keeper at best & not good enough, not the level we should be looking at..

He's been on loan or backup for majority of his, underwhelming, career.. about 200 games Champ & PL & he's 31..

He's not going to be good enough - we don't need another Lumley: backup keeper..

We should not be spending any money on Darlow.

He is different to Lumley though, and much better. Lumley was 2nd choice at QPR, not a premier league side.
My Newcastle supporting mates think he's decent

Big difference in a keeper mate as you can risk blooding a young player esp an attacking one with very little chance it will cost you a gk is a whole different story.

Lumley is 4 years younger & 50 games behind - zero PL though.. I stand by both are backup keepers & I know JL is not good enough, I doubt, very much, if KD is good enough..
 
He's alright keeper but I don't like the fact we are getting him from Newcastle. I hate everything that clubs stands for now
 
If he commands his box and is good at collecting crosses. He will do for me. If not , hes not an upgrade on lumley.
 
Better than we have. I also think it's a bit of an early 'statement' as in he's definitely on a few quid at the mags and still won't come cheap with a paycut. Although im slightly surprised we ain't going cheaper (wage wise).

I think we may have a few players 'well down the line' listing to Wilder and how excited he is.

The most surprising aspect this week was finding out we were sacking our goal keeping coach. I mean 'surprised' in the fact we had one. I wouldn't stick it on his next CV. 'Boro goal keeping coach 21-22'😂

Someone in the recruitment team must like him, we've been linked with him for years.

I would need convincing with this signing, I remember that game TC is referring to, can't remember the season possibly a Mowbray one where it was a bit dour, that game and Darlow's kicking abilities was one of the best bits of entertainment.

The goalkeeping standard in the Championship doesn't seem that high at all.
 
I was going to ask my mate (barcode STholder) was he was like, but like the rest of them up there he does'nt really
understand football that much.

Lumley, Daniels & Stoj can all leave. Brad James or Sol will be number 3.

Hemmings and a new signing (maybe Darlow) to battle for number one spot but all likelihood new singing (darlow) will be number 1

Brad James seems to have been wasted after a great Season at Hartlepool, Sol Brynn being brought back seemed to be a bit of a pointless exercise too. What on Earth happened with Dejan Stojanovic? £1m keeper wasn’t he?
