Not a big fan of ABC back in the 80's, lots of other groups I preferred

Not a hugely popular band, but I liked them and this is a great song. I later worked with one of the band members and am still mates with him now.

Have got tickets to see these in Wellington, postponed until next year.
In 97, we saw them at the Coatham, my wife was about 8 months pregnant at the time. There was more people in the band than in the audience, and as Gary got more and more drunk on stage he just said f* it, come up on stage, so we all jumped on the stage and had a boogie.

One of my best gigs ever, they were on stage for about 2 hours.

And another Erimus74

Ha, my wife, for dare with her mate, rang up Joanne in the early eighties. She had her 2nd name, and found out through one of those daft pop mags that she was still living with her mam and dad. Rang directory enquiries and got the number. Didn't know what to say when he answered, just asked if Joanne was there. She came to the phone and they had a right old natter. In the end Joanne sent my wife quite a bit of free stuff about the band.
Them were the days.

Class that 👍

I wouldn't call myself a fan but loved "How to be a Millionaire" I'm sure I've got the 12" in the attic (Zillionaire)

surprised nobody mentioned the great Orange Juice

From a thread that started with "not-a-big-fan-of-abc-back-in-the-80s-lots-of-other-groups-i-preferred" its brought out some great music Erimus74. Well done. (y)

I always loved this band. Saw them in Glasgow about 10 years ago in a small pub. They were still fantastic.

The Wild Swans - Young Manhood

Paul Simpson of The Wild Swans also played with Ian Broudie in Care. This is a great song by them and to make it even better someone has posted a video of The Water Margin with it. Used to love that.

Care - Flaming Sword

I have just reviewed a new release from a Tyneside singer/songwriter with the interesting name of Scott Free. The reason I am posting on this thread is that his album is called The Mexican of Love, which made me laugh. Second song Texaco. Third Inca-Hoots - Scott Free likes a pun. Am sure Martin Fry would approve.

One of my favourite 12" singles of the day and I loved the hours I spent in the Water Margins of Liang Xiang Po. There was a DVD available but so heavily edited as to be unwatchable. All the violence is edited out and the plot is no longer traceable. I saw it a few years ago in France. I don't know if it's actually even available here.

Saw China Crisis at The Arc before lockdown. They were dreadful. They were on stage about 2 and half hours but sang/played for about an hour. If I had a pound for every time Walter Becker/Steely Dan got mentioned I'd be a rich man, the pair of them just withered on incessantly between songs.

Shame cos they've got great songs, I was at the Coatham Bowl gig, saw them at Harveys in Stockton in the early Nineties playing to a small crowd - they pull a crowd now but dear god they need to talk less and just play more.

I loved them- got a heap of their 12" singles (in the loft)

African and White was the first, followed by others including this gem- Kevin Keegan, Phil Neal and John Conteh :) and Wishful thinking which was a beautiful track
