Not one Cheltenham Festival thread.

On the Monday of Cheltenham week this place used to be buzzing with threads about the action to come over the next four days. The racing lads seem to be long gone on here. Mr Isaac, Kingy, American Mary. Didn’t some of the lads get a syndicate going? Lady Erimus ?

As a non racing buff I didn't realise how big Cheltenham was, is, until a couple of years back when a group of us went to Benidorm for my now son in laws stagdoo
Our hotel was bouncing, 3 massive screens around the Pool, a bloke bookie who was taken bets
The atmosphere was tremendous

I actually got roped in to having a bet, though the horse I backed sadly fell & was shot😔, needless to say, my 1st & last bet

I think the Cheltenham goers, in general, are keeping a bit quiet after last year, it took a hell of a lot of criticism for crowding that many people in, at that time. I don't think that would have affected posting on here mind, unless people from here actually go?

Nothing against racing or going in general, mind, it looks a quality day out, but there is a time and a place, and March 20 wasn't it, horses for courses, so to speak.

When we were at Benidorm as I mentioned I got talking to a big Cheltenham fan who regularly went & who has a couple of horses with others, he was telling me it was cheaper going to Benidorm for the week than to Cheltenham itself

I usually have a flutter n most days of the festival, however the magic has been rubbed off this year with the Gordon Elliot story. I just can't actively support the sport currently.

The handling of it with his ban is a disgrace... It wasn't sufficient and it is not effecting him as a punishment should. all he has done is transfer the license to Denise Foster. He should have got a personal ban AND a stables ban... this would have been a proper punishment.

Agree with you on the leniency of the punishment

Yeah I bet, it's the same as F1 or a Music Festival, but probably even on a more expensive scale, everything just gets ridiculously priced as its a captive market, and they will never not sell the tickets. Racing is always an expensive day mind, being there a whole weekend would be brutal on the wallet, good fun though.

I think horse racing generally is keeping a lower profile. The perception is growing that it's a pitiless business overflowing with utterly ruthless people. Every time there's another appalling incident with a trainer like Elliott or the sick jockey, it's losing support and credibility. Pretty soon you get to the tipping point.
