This might be controversial but if we play well tonight or even win Is that more worying a sign for the team than if we simply roll over and get hammered. As that would at least show that we’re simply not good enough.

Because if we can beat Leeds tonight (as we did v wba) does that show that the players are cheating the fans and simply only motivated against the bigger sides in the bigger games.

This also would imply that it’s not the manager that is motivating them ( as shown in the abject Luton and Barnsley games) but the occasion itself.

You make a good point to be fair, never thought of it like that.

I really hope we do win though. Results breed confidence.

The problem is that it doesn't really prove anything. Leeds might have an offday. The referee might have had a shocker that benefited us. A lucky bounce went our way. The result won't tell the whole story. The same way scorelines earlier in the season didn't say who was the better side - such as the home defeat to Brentford.

Also look back at the McClaren days. When we beat all the big sides at home. Beat Chelsea 3-0, Arsenal 2-1, Man Utd 4-1 at home all in one season. Yet at the same time we also lost 4-0 at home to Aston Villa. Wigan won at the Riverside as well. Bottom of the league Sunderland won 2-0 here despite only winning 3 games all season. But we were screwed by the ref in that game.

This used to really grind on me during the PL years, when we'd drop loads of points to the bottom few teams but usually take a few from the top clubs.

Roy Keane went and spoke to an opposition team after they beat Man Utd in a cup match years ago, didn't he?

Alleged to have told the players that they were taking the **** out of their boss if they were capable of beating the champions, but plodding along mid-table in a lower league.

But then again, teams near the foot of the table may be set-up to stop you playing, whereas a team near the top could be attacking and leave themselves open on the break. Making it end to end and who scores first and then closes the match out.
We need to win games, doesn't matter who we play. Wins breed confidence from players and fans. And best time to start that is tonight.

Well the crucial three points would help us in our struggle so it doesnt really matter either way imo. It could all come down to.a single point to.save us on the final day.

This is the beauty of what Klopp is doing. No matter how well they play, Liverpool players turn up every match.
Not sure if Zorro has pinpointed the problem we have or whether it's just a combination of not so great players and confidence. Whatever it is needs rectifying quickly before the rot really sets in.

Wigan and Barnsley seem to realise the predicament they're in. Both winning away from home and both playing well. In the meantime we sleepwalk into League One.

Having heard you out Zorro, and taking your argument into consideration as well as the valued views of the other esteemed posters on this thread, the only conclusion that can logically be drawn following tonight's result, is that we're shyite.
