OFFICIAL Tour de France Thread 2022

Just been reading this is the fastest ever TDF - and, of course, there has only been a few sprint days.
Questions are bound to be asked but we did have proper racing on most days.

I just went back through the history books to see how long it is since more than 25 minutes separated the top 10. Appears it was 1997, the year Ullrich won it, with the 10th placed rider more than 32 minutes back!
That is an interesting stat as we know the Doping that Ullrich was involved in.
Although I have my suspicions about some riders I have enjoyed this years more then I have for a while.

The opening stage of the TdF Femmes was interesting, but the circuit around Paris will always be more of a crit race as it's hard to establish a race winning break.
Stage 8 will be a killer after what I expect to be 6 stages of hard racing leading up to it.

Very entertaining last stage which Philipsen won with ease.

Pidcock came 2nd in the white jersey comp, 58 minutes behind 😊

Well, that tour was like watching round one of Hagler v Hearns for 3 weeks. Except maybe Hagler had Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran in the ring with him.
Mental stuff. WVA? Ridiculous. Either tear up all the rules of sports science or bust him.

Some thoroughly enjoyable racing, especially over the last 7 days. It was exhausting watching Pogacer and Vindegaard let along being in Thomas's shoes having to climb back on to their wheels.

It was one of the best Tours I've watched in years. I normally prefer to watch the Vuelta, because the racing is nuts or the Giro for some of the ridiculously hard climbs, but this was a fantastic spectacle. Wout van Aert was unbelievable. Chapeau to all of them.

It's the first Tour I've watched from beginning to end for decades. My better half's a teacher so we're usually away most of July, plus I really do prefer one-day races. However, this Tour was very enjoyable because many days were almost ridden like a one day race - there were few 'dead' stages. Long may it continue like that.
