Old names for diseases

In The Market Theatre in Johannesburg there are notifications to be aware of Newcastle Disease in big letters all over the place. It made me feel very at home.

šŸ˜‚ I was down the Gut a few weeks ago, first return visit in 46 years when I was there on the Devonshire, when we were Malta Guard Ship. I was amazed to find an M&S in Strait Street, Vallettaā€™s famous ā€˜The Gutā€™. How times change eh? Similar to my last visit to Singers, finding Bugis Street is now an underground station!
 
Sweating Sickness is intriguing. ā€œThe Sweatsā€ was a major killer in the 16th century. It was said that its onset was so sudden and severe that you could be well at breakfast and dead by bedtime.

The disease eventually disappeared and , despite detailed descriptions made at the time, modern science has no real idea what it was.
 
Moons malady isn't on the list. It was meant to have been eradicated but there is evidence it's still in circulation in some parts of the population.
