Ollie Watkins

He's been some signing. I'm sure 'bigger' clubs will be kicking themselves over not bringing him in.

You'd say in prem terms an absolute steal. They will probably struggle to keep hold of him. I wonder if Brentford have a sell on?

How good is he? How much better can he get, future england regular for me from what I’ve seen.
I think he's a great little player, but that he will fall just short of that England regular level, probably regular squad player for England and a 10-15 goal CF. He's behind Kane and Rashford and maybe Calvert-Lewin. I think Greenwood will be ahead in a year or two. If Tammy Abraham can get himself a decent move then that'll move him back above too.

Villa are a big club IMO. They have a massive fan base and obviously they have underachieved for many years now but really they should be thinking of backing the manager and pushing on next season. He has done well there. There is no reason why the can't be up with the likes of Leicester, WHU and Everton for examples.

That said I dislike them immensely.

Was seriously worried there but you recovered the situation with that last sentence. 😊

Yep. Villa are a genuinely big club and Watkins is a quality player.

I mean it’s a great conversation to be having - all that quality we have available. I just think he is such a good all rounder and has took to the premiership like a duck to water. I mean he could be a one season wonder or I may have just seem games/goals that reaffirm my view but I just think there is something special about him. Only time will tell.

Its hard to see Villa as a big club now when in the last 40 years they've won only one league cup more than us. Under O'Neill they looked like they might get back to being 'challengers' but it didn't last. They'll be lucky to finish top half. I file them next to Leeds and Newcastle ie Should be better than they are. Arguably not even the biggest club in the Midlands at present.

Villa are a big club. I'd put them ahead of Everton, Leeds, Newcastle and certainly Leicester in terms of size.

Their history makes for impressive reading......

Certainly historically but it always divides opinion how far one should look back with these things.

Mind you, I can't personally see any argument for them being 'bigger' than Everton but for one European Cup?

Not much between them at all but Villa have won more trophies and spent more seasons in the top flight.

I think history is important in defining the size of a club. If we're going to go on the logic of defining the size of a club based on how they're currently performing, you could argue that Brentford are a bigger club than Sunderland.

Leicester may be a more attractive proposition for a player at present but that doesn't make them a bigger club.

The whole big and little club debate is redundant now as modern football is all about the here and now.

as look at Chelsea and their meteoric rise to European powerhouses and none more so than Man City the epitome of average for decades now the standard bearer for the prem league.

Bournemouth are a tiny club with little to no history but with Russian money that all changed and they became a top flight regular.

Yes villa are a 'big' club but not big enough to hang into their best players.

If City or UTD offered crazy money for Watkins or Grealish they would sell. Just like Liverpool players going to Barcelona etc. Always a bigger club with more money.

I'm sure another good season for Watkins would see him go to a 'bigger' or should I say better club. That said grass isn't always greener and all that.

I'm suprised Leicester didn't go for him at Brentford. Rodgers loves young champo talent and seems a decent choice as vardys longterm replacement. Any club wanting him would probsbly pay 3-4 times that now.
