One Pfizer vaccination 52% effective after 12 days (according to an article in El País in English from 13 January 2021)

"Almería outbreaks

A dozen seniors and four members of staff in two residences in Almería in southern Spain have tested positive for the coronavirus after having received the first of two doses of the Pfizer and BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine. The initial shot provides 52% efficiency in terms of protecting from the illness but not until 12 days have passed since the injection, according to BioNTech. In neither of these outbreaks had this time limit been exceeded. The second shot results in 95% immunity, according to the creators of the immunization.

The 12 seniors, all asymptomatic apart from one, live in the Ballesol and Asistida Diputación residences. Andalusia has so far vaccinated 82,025 seniors and health workers, from a total of 140,295 doses – 58% of the received shots. This percentage falls to 39% if the 69,225 doses received by the regional government on Monday are included."

Residence is a care home I believe.

That’s my worry with only having the one jab with a 12 week gap as it’s extending this period of doubt and uncertainty when the vaccine is not at it most potent and to be fair to the drug companies they never said it should be 12 weeks.

I think we should stick to the original drug company instructions.

Spain is sticking with 3 weeks until the second one.

After the mess the government has made of the whole thing, my worry is they are now more interested in saying "look how many vaccinations we're doing" .. rather than doing it right ..
I think that’s how it looks

also my other fear is how easy it is to delay or even forget this second jab as well.

as I said drug companies never sanctioned this.

Don’t use the word worry in a vaccine thread! It could be misconstrued ;)

That's certainly the way we're doing it. Closed to the general public right now for the first one, but everyone who has had it is guaranteed the second. In some ways I feel bad that I'm getting my first on Tuesday because I'm an employee, but.....

Doesn't exactly inspire confidence

It’s a tough one is it better to have 10% of the uk fully covered or 30% half covered???
You're right Zorro it is a tough one, what is the better way to do it, I suppose time will tell.

My humble opinion I would go with the 30% half covered.
