Car following me for 2 miles along country roads, right up my ****. I wasn't going fast or slow, just the usual speed most people do

When I went to turn right, you can guess what happened :mad::mad:

I'm always moaning to Mrs H about tailgaters and I'm totally justified
If you're always moaning about tailgaters you're probably driving like a Grandma holding everyone up

LOL presumptuous to say the least

Maybe I've just a careful driver who uses his rear view mirror a lot and notices these things

Maybe I'm a stupid fast driver who attracts a lot of boy racers coming up behind me

Maybe you're just wrong?

Covered your basis there Red. You're either a miss daisy or an Ayrton senna😊

I agree that tailgating is wrong but I followed someone on the road between Stokesley and the Gables this week who braked at every bend and change in gradient including the uphill ones. Athe the double bend by the Newby turn off they were virtually stationary at both apexes. The car between me and them crossed double whites to get past them and to be fair a cyclist might have got past too.

Agreed but someone doing 40 in a 60 when conditions are good is very frustrating.
If you want a nice easy run out in the country fine, enjoy it, but please pull over and let the person behind you get on their way.
Very few do it.
Agreed, but someone driving at those speeds either doesn’t know the area or aren’t confident drivers (likely elderly) driving on their bumper will achieve nothing apart from winding yourself up and potentially push the other driver into an accident. Would guess 50% of collisions wouldn’t happen if people kept the correct distance

Why bother trying to wind someone up further? It just adds to the problem, and probably ultimately causes plenty of crashes itself. If someone is being a d ckhead, rather than slowing down, why not just pull over and let them past?
Because they will then just go and do the same to the next car up the road

Driving at the speed limit isn’t holding people up, it’s the law.

It seems the biggest issue is people not setting off on their journey in a timely manner and constantly being in a hurry. Or, more likely, they are just selfish morons who drive dangerously regardless.

They are the same people parking in disabled, parent and child and drop off spaces at supermarkets.

It’s the age of the entitled.

And at the other extreme it is against the law to drive too slowly.
If people have to drive at 30 because they can't drive in a 60 holding the traffic up they themselves are a danger to others and should not be on the road.

Well said mate. Seems like there's plenty of excuses to try and excuse bad driving and not enough taking responsibility. That includes those that drive dangerously slowly, who hog the middle and outside lanes etc as well as those that speed, run red lights and tailgate amongst other dangerous habits.

If the police couldn't catch this guy for 70 years no wonder they don't catch the 1,000,000 uninsured drivers on the road, the speeders and dangerous drivers!

It really amazes me how motorists get wound up about horses / pedestrians / cyclists / highway code changes so much but turn a blind eye to the staggering amount of law breaking and poor driving by the fellow motorist.

(PS - I am a motorist too - but not a horse rider - bloody horses crapping everywhere!!!)

I get what you are saying - you probably mean the old granny who can't really drive and goes 40mph in a 30 zone, a 40 zone, a 60 zone etc BUT sometimes it might just be that the driver driving at 30 in the 60 zone feels that the conditions are poor so he / she is going slower.

Lots country roads in rural locations round these parts are national speed limit but in reality when you can't see round bends and they hedges are high shouldn't be driven at 60.

It amazes me how cyclists THINK motorists are turning a blind eye to motorists law breaking, merely because they suggest cyclists shouldn't break the law either! Think about it, you made that comment on a thread where many people are complaining about motorists breaking the law!

It's no surprise that a lot of us think driving standards are worse than ever, but the people who react to that by doing exactly the same thing is just a bad, if not worse eg barke checking, showing down more to hold up speeding drivers.

Just saying, but it's double standards and just as bad.

Fair one! :D But in my day to day job as a born again cyclist (normally the only one in some circles that I mix in) the majority of people don't accept that drivers (of which I am one) drive dangerously / speed / break the law. But they are happy to brand all cyclists as reckless. Some of it is an age thing, the older people I speak with really hate cyclists, the younger ones are more likely to cycle themselves and have grown up with more on the road so are more tolerant.

Also you have to remember, as I keep mentioning, I am primarily a driver. Apart from last year when I cycled A LOT I drive more than I cycle. I am a motorist.

I think people getting on he backs of cyclists forget that the majority of adults cycling around in lycra on expensive road bikes are drivers who probably own multiple cars and pay their fair share of 'road tax', have insurance, have full driving licences and have experience of the road for many years.

I reckon many of us recognise that we're not perfect subs, but not being perfect and deliberately endangering other road users are two separate issues.
To be fair Dood some of the early replies were suggesting dangerous practices because they were a bit miffed at being tailgate. It's not anymore acceptable than the tailgating.

My multiple kerbed alloys would attest to the fact I'm probably not the perfect driver. I do know the law and don't try and break it or intimidate other road users though

Brake checking -Highly illegal, up to 2 years in prison for dangerous driving, and an unlimited fine - if a death results,14 years prison ( and unlimited fine).

Tailgaters are idiots, and so are brakecheckers - keep calm, just pull over at an appropriate opportunity and let the brain dead crack on.
Plenty of dash cam footage online showing the terrible results of brake checking once too often.
