Panorama - Anti Social Behaviour: Afraid in my own home

I thought Andy Preston made a big thing about anti social behaviour and turfing the scum out of their houses?
This takes forever. We had it in our old street and it took about 6 months end to end, and that was with CCTV Installed in the street itself. The process completed and they rented a house 4 streets away and it starts back at square 1.

My 78 year old dad lives there. Had the wing mirror booted off his car a couple of weeks ago. Hes itching to have a go at these lot running riot but ive told him just to keep his head down.

There is something seriously wrong with the way our society is ran. We luve in the 5th or 6th richest country in the world and cang afford an adequate police service, social services, foster placements ect ect ect.
It's how that wealth is distributed though, look at countries with more equal wealth distribution (most Nordic countries) and crime statistics differ dramatically. I'm sure there's more to it but it must be said that the vast majority of people, if they had the money to do something more engaging/enjoyable than throwing bricks at someone's windows would probably do so.

We can afford them. Very easily.

There's an ideology that stops this. Have a think about the 2 million people using food banks and think about how that's a choice too.

Makes you sick to the stomach

The lack of action by the authorities invites vigilantism but you'd suddenly find the police and courts acting very quickly if you, justifiably in some cases, took things into your own hands 👎

Always think of that bloke who threw the spade at a kid on a bike. Straight to jail.

So is the issue a small number of people or a disruptive family or is it just widespread with a load of Chavs causing trouble .

on a note of vigilantism, hemlington has always had enough *cough influential people who I’m surprised haven’t had a word yet …..

People need to realise what an under-funded police force looks like. Its always the police who get the blame but they have to prioritise what they do.
Low numbers of police on the beat and the complete lack of a visible police presence allows crime and anti-social behaviour to thrive. Allied with this the parents lack of care, control and discipline. I'm sure their teachers also get it in the neck everyday at their under-funded school too.

All consequences of deliberate government policy but people pay more attention to facebook and reality TV.
I think you can also throw in the mix the cuts made to the Youth Service provisions throughout the country. When I was a teenager I went to a youth centre either to relax or play sport four nights per week.

Last night, I was in Hemlington for my woodturning and noticed there was a couple of outreach youth workers outside the centre but couldn't see any kids. The dispersal order was still on so that might be the reason.

These people aren't stealing food to live on, they are causing misery to others for the 'fun' of it.
That's true and I wouldn't imagine people would defend it. But these sorts of things are undoubtedly more prevalent when the government doesn't deal with issues around poverty, employment or public services (policing)

I can't remember a time when these problems weren't prevalent, irrespective of Government in power, from the 70's onward.

There has been nothing mentioned or subsequent action, that we know about, of the three kids who smashed the OAP's windows a few months back. I would happily spread their names all over the EG and evict their families from the estate to set an example to others. But as we know the mamby pamby system would rather tell them off without further action and then put TAXES up to sort the shoite and mess they leave behind.

I see Preston thinks jailing them is the answer.

Worrying that anyone in a position of power thinks throwing young people in jail for relatively low level crime, surrounding them with violent criminals for months/years, destroying any chance of education or a decent job in their lives will somehow actually make things better

Sure the already significantly stretched prison system will be thankful too

Lass I knows grandmother is in sheltered accommodation in Hemlington, the urchins have smashed her fence down to use to build fires.

Imagine being a teenager and doing that to a little lady in her 90's.

The party who are tough on crime? Laughable, they have overseen a decade of absolute carnage.

Tory voters, why?
