Parks and walks in Middlesbrough.

With the lockdown (and no golf!) I have been visiting areas of Middlesbrough that I have never been to such as the becks around Acklam / Coulby Newham. There are some great walks, Blue Bell Beck, Saphwood Beck, Marton West Beck etc and parks such as Fairy Dell park. I have been using Google Earth / Street View to plan the routes. One place that I saw tonight on Google Earth was “Cargo Fleet River View Park”. I’ve never heard of it but seems to have decent views of the Tees. Anybody been? Looks a bit of a dodgy area for a park and the car park looks a bit overgrown!

No longer live in Boro itself but I know where the place is and have walked close to its vicinity in the past. Seems to have been put together at a similar time to Teessaurus Park, in a similar location (near former slag heaps) as an ill-fated effort to try and boost movement to out of town areas, forgetting that they're likely too out of the way with nothing nearby for that to work. Views look alright though if you fancy a trek.

We had a walk along the tees on Sunday from the barrage to teesaurus park and back, first time I'd been there and was surprised at how many families were there 👍

Yes, it’s amazing how many lovely walks / cycle paths there are around Teesside. Fairy Dell Park up to the underpass of the Parkway is really nice. (y)

I grew up there. That was my playground in the early 90s. Fishing not just in fairy dell but in the little pond as you walk towards the park way over Gunnergate Lane.

Lovely place to be

It’s nice up past the new Grey Towers village in Nunthorpe. On the Pool Hospital roundabout there’s a little dirt track where you can park your car. Walk the path and it will take you past Grey towers lake ( private) and out towards Nunthorpe Hall. Some lovely views.

Never done that but wouldn't mind trying it, what's the path like? I'd have a 2 year old and a 5 year old with me too, so wouldn't want it to be too overgrown or boggy underfoot? I'm assuming they couldn't take a bike or scooter either?

You can walk through the Fairy Dell section safely and securely with the kids between Parkway and Gunnergate Lane. Or start off on Tollesby Lane from Ladgate Lane to get there. And there are various offshoots - there is a circular walk around Newham Grange Leisure Farm that you can branch off onto - all with access by bike and mobility scooter actually.

Pity Albert Park closes at 430, especially with the lighter nights. Closed by the time I get in from work .

There is a path both sides of the river, and a path on the Middlesbrough side going from Newport bridge to teesaurus park so you should be fine.
Not overgrown or boggy anywhere.

They have just resurfaced the path between Newport Bridge around Ironmasters District - it is a wide, flat path used by lots of families and there are signs up at intervals a history trail telling/showing what the river was like here in times of industry.
There are cycleways either side of the Tees between Newport Bridge, Tees Barrage and Infinity Bridge and on to Stockton Millennium Bridge and beyond on Teesdale Way to Victoria Bridge.
Lots of families now wander around the watersports park, and Maze Park across the other side of the river. Lots of accessible paths and cycleways. Even Newport Bridge has a ramp up from the Newport bank, then you can cross the bridge on the downstream side (right) and keep going for 100 yards towards Billingham and the path doubles back and under the bridge - it is signed and again is a cycleway.
