It amazes me how many people think to keep their house cool, the best thing would be to open the doors/windows and let all that toastie warm air in.
Not keen on bifolds, they look great but significantly more expensive, significantly less reliable due to more moving parts/points of failure and they break the sight lines up more when closed, which they would be a lot more often than not. we are also only one street from a lot of fields so get a lot of wildlife in the garden so imagine we'd end up with a kitchen full of harvest flies and the like.
Patio doors are literally sliding windows. At least in the sense they're made out of glass and people look out of them. Which is what he's literally considering. To answer your question: his windows have door knobs attached.
yes, generally hard to walk through though, so these days people tend to prefer doors for such openings.
Ok we've had them a couple of years find them great. The fact we can just open one door or all of them on a nice day helps. We just have 3 large doors so sightlines are fine. Also got some electric roller blinds for privacy which where a lot cheaper than i expected.
Or sit in a house on a lovely day with all the doors shut ?
And kep out as much as possible the tiny black thunder bugs (gers)
The question was regarding how to keep your house cool. Not how to enjoy the weather, which has a different logical answer of sit outside.
I sit outside the house on a lovely day, not in the house, but i keep the lovely day outside - if it's 30c outside you don't want it heating up your house with windows and doors open, same principle as european houses often having external shutters. i can see the benefit if you are hosting or something, but otherwise you're making the house warmer during the day and during the night.
