Exactly. I think a good number of these people would be in the market for a Peloton
why, are you suddenly after one?

This is a good comparison video.
I like the look of the atom - as a winter solution.
See my previous postswhy, are you suddenly after one?
I bought them before I had 2 kids. Why do you have 3 bikes then? They are not needed. I strongly suspect the same goes for the Peloton. There's far too many people buying things that they don't really need. Of course, many of these people will puff their chest out and say that they can afford it, etc and enjoy so and so. Often, neither is true. People continuously get into debt over things that they don't use or need.
You do what works for yo and that's the pointsI think you've got to look at why people go for a peloton rather than a Wattbike, Zwift etc as to me they're two very different things.
Mrs Jumpers, an "ocassional cyclist" got her peloton as she was missing live Soul Cycle classes from when we lived in the US. She loves the loud cheesy music, dark lights and motivational instructors, and the peloton was the closest she could get here when she couldn't get to the live classes in central London.
I on the other hand, as a "serious cyclist" have a smart trainer with Zwift set up in the summer house, as I am much more into the gamification element and seeing how I fare against myself over the same courses (like in real life) and find the loud music and annoiying instructors well....annoying.
To me the two aren't directly comparable, other than they're both indoor exercises involving pedaling, but appeal to two very different groups of people.
Thanks for sharing that.
It would be good to find an app that combines the best of the 2 options. I do like the odd spinning class.
If you want an Atom for the winter.....
Currently 15-17 weeks delivery for the latest model
I've got a road bike on order so I'm going to check out the Wahoo Kickr too - which is another option for anyone who already owns a bike.
Side note: The sweat coming off that guy when he was testing the PELETON

Wasn't the one asking a questioni did, see my response.
Wasn't the one asking a question
I have 3 bikes but I don't have the time to ride
Mrs Jumpers, an "occasional cyclist" (She has 3 "real" bikes BTW).
This place is better than your average comedy club. gents
This all probably sounded funnier in your head than it is in reality.
Don’t be jealous & bitter just because you’re unfit and broke
Few pics of my setup
Bike around £200
Tablet holders were £19 each - there are other styles but these seemed most secure and I'd rather have it held from 2 sides than just 1
replaced the pedals with SPD compatible shimano ones for £34
Wahoo cadence sensor £29
Total cost £301, plus £12 a month for the Peloton subscription (which does other exercises as well as just spin class, and has various leisure rides built in too)
I'm considering putting a TV on the wall in my office and casting to that.
Looks great (Currently looking at The Atom)
Do you mind answering some pretty basic questions?
I’ve read the bike you have isn’t great for ‘tall’ cyclists - what’s your view?
It clearly links to various Apps - is it Bluetooth?
I’m assuming it doesn’t mimic the gradient?
thanks
Believe powerhouse fitness are the exclusive stockists and have a store down in Newcastle so you could always check if they have one in store to look at (or watch fb and go view one)
or if you’re local you can come have a look at mine
So not "glib" advice then? I said paying a few grand for an exercise bike and paying a subscription is mental imo. You are suggesting a way around having to pay that. So you're agreeing you fool. All I'm suggesting is unless it is something you really enjoy, it is totally unnecessary. I've never been to a gym in my life or paid for any fitness classes, yet am fitter and stronger than 99% of people who do.Not really that great advice tbf, not everyone likes to go out for long bike rides and if you’re going to go out for 20 minute bike rides you’ll probably spend longer on safety checks and pumping tyres. Also it’s great glib advice in weather like we have now, not so easy to go and do in a thunderstorm or when it’s shotting it down, freezing, windy AF or snowing. Some people like that but not a lot. Likewise paying a sub isn’t that barmy because you’re subscribing to content. You’re not subscribing to the bike, you can have the bike without the sub. You’re subscribing to multiple daily classes which can be accessed at your leisure.
As for peloton, you have 4 options imo
1) Buy peloton
£1900-2200 plus £39 a month. Nice option if you can afford it but for me this is crazy money for what you get. If you finance the bike over 3 years you’re paying £100 a month including the sub! But you do get all the metrics and leaderboards etc
2) Buy a peloton knock off like echelon or Ajax
Bikes can be cheaper but subs are generally still £30+, I’d personally avoid this.
3) Buy any old spin bike and do YouTube classes or other apps
Ymmv!
4) Or do what I did and build a cheap peloton. Basically buy any bike you like, fit a tablet holder (£12) and cadence sensor (£29) and sync to a HRM and subscribe to the peloton app, it’s £12 a month which is a lot more palatable than £39.
I love spin classes, they’re short, they burn calories like crazy and I enjoy the music. I would previously go to the gym for them but obviously not that keen now, plus classes were generally on at like 5:30pm so a ballache trying to get there after work. I can hop on my bike any time I like - they’ve got live classes and you can access the back catalogue. The peloton classes themselves are fairly good with a good daily selection.i do go out on my real bike but it’s completely different to spinning and spinning is great for training and a quick sesh before work or at lunch etc (I work from home permanently now), and my partner can use it without us both doing gym subs. For many, they may Not live near a gym at all, or may not want to be around a gym in the current climate, so I can see the appeal.
I’ve got hue lights as well so get the authentic spin studio vibe
The bike I use is a bodymax b15 which has rrp of £499 atm but you’ll find a glut of them for sale that people bought at lockdown start - I got mine for £200 in basically as new condition, so cost me very little setup. Conversely my outdoor bike cost about 7x that but I love both.
If you like spin classes, you can make any of those 4 options work and it’s what fits your budget and lifestyle
Sorry just realise option 5 - smart turbo trainer with existing bike... but that’s more for indoor “outdoor” bike practice rather than spin class, or zwift!
