Phil Spencer "Journalist"

Does this guy have the worst take of all the Boro journalists out there?

As a reminder this is the guy that said he also follows Liverpool because he supports a small club like Middlesbrough.

I don't agree with that personally. I've actually just said it in another thread.

On paper we "should" be top 6. I know thats easy to say, and we're pitiful at the minute, but we really do have a good squad.

Yep, we are a team that's less then the sum of our parts.

Same with Pulis and the only time we had a squad that was remotely poor enough to go down was under Woodgate

This guy is a Talksport journalist so perhaps he’s being provocative to get responses/likes/impressions etc.
Or perhaps he's just saying what he sees. After that capitulation last night it must be obvious to all but the most optimistic that Boro are performing like a really poor team. Everyone saw Luton come really close to scoring twice at the end of the first half. The momentum had already shifted so the second half shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone and especially Warnock.

With better finishing and better refereeing Luton would have scored at least six goals in the second half. Boro's efforts on goal were woeful.

What do Boro do in training? Most of them can't even kick it properly let alone follow complex routines and formations.

I'm pretty sure that with Warnock in charge Boro will be flirting with relegation. There may be poorer teams but it's hard to be convinced of that. Other teams' points deductions may save Boro.

I don't care whether he's a Liverpool fan, Phil Spencer is right.

He's not. I read it like you did, but what he actually says it would make no difference who the manager is.

it wasn't just momentum, they tweeked tactically at half time. A mid press because they knew we couldn't pass through their midfield and would launch it under pressure. They knew we wouldn't hold it up often. they then got their fullbacks to drive forward, knowing Hernandez and Jones are natural at going backwards to defend. Which gave them an overload. On top of that he clearly pepped them up to be more aggressive and physical with us, and we crumbled at that challenge.

What was Warnocks tactical response?! Nothing really, carry on doing the same plan A which was failing

I don't know where people are getting the idea we've got really good players from. We have finished in the playoffs once. Near the bottom once and been mid table twice. We are a mid table team. Sounds a bit like all the shackles off nonsense we got under karanka.
Our playoff team included traore, Gibson, Ayala and bamford. We don't have anyone close to the caliber of those players.
I'm sure we can play better than we have been, but the level of the players is way below what I've seen in the past.

I see so many making this point and it’s so frustrating, we have a better squad than most sides in this league and have spent a fair bit as well, absolutely no chance we should be looking at anything but the top 6

What relevance does the past have to this season? You compare like for like. If you think Blackpool, Coventry, Luton and the like have better players collectively than we do then quite frankly I think you’re wrong.

Neither you nor I know how good Blackpool Coventry or Luton are. Of course the past is relevant. It provides a yardstick and comparison to the players we have currently with players we have seen week in week out.

It’s the first time since we came back down that I actually like the majority of our players as footballers, yet we are performing really poorly, that can only be down to the manager.

Compare this squad to the squad Pulis got to 7th, it’s miles better. The only player I’d kill for now would be Randolph.

I'd take Ayala, Besic, Randolph and maybe Hugill would be better as third choice CF than Ikpeazu in today's team.
But then I would take Bamba, Bola, Dijksteel, Crooks, Payero and Sporar into that Pulis team.

Pretty similar standard of player to be honest

I do actually. Luton are woeful - in the first half last night they bypassed the midfield completely. A nothing side but they lie 6th because they grind at it. They also lost 5-0 at home to Birmingham last month. We are at least as good as them but not whilst managed by Warnock.
