Planned riot in Middlesborough last weekend.

There was more football hooliganism tho?
But this is a bit like the football hooligan era.

A relatively small number of thugs and idiots giving the vast majority of football fans and football itself a bad name.

The worst thing about Farage and his little band of discriminatory racists is they claim to speak for the ‘British People’, he has released a statement this morning as if he is some kind of national spokesperson for the common man.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Let’s also remember they’ve been lied to.

Brexit was their big hope, it was going to fix everything. It was going to create equality, stop immigration, create opportunity, make cost of living cheaper…..but it was a sham, it did the exact opposite to all of these things. I’d be amazed if any significant % of the violent rioters or even protestors were remain voters.

Enough is enough I first heard in Brexit vote, take our country back was used then. They feel cheated by it. They hate Labour (#neverlabour!!) because they’ve been lied to that Labour stoped the Tories enacting a good deal. They hate the Tories because everything has got worse since Brexit. Reform have started to fill that gap…despite them effectively being a rebranded UKIP who also lied to them.

These people feel lied to, so rioting prevails. They feel that the Brexit they wanted and voted for hasn’t been delivered and the general election result is going to row it back further….but the fact is what they were promised is a pipe dream that will never be delivered for multiple reasons. We have to have strong trade relations or we will be poorer, we have a gdp shortfall because of brexit, our goods and cost of living will be higher, we can’t magically ‘stop the boats’. Rwanda plan is pointless.

We need to address the rhetoric that was used, who it was used by and why, that has now converted previously politically apathetic people into radicalised terrorists.

….and before anyone starts, no I’m not calling all leave voters racists or rioters…I’m calling all rioters racist and almost exclusively not remain voters. There’s a clear rhetoric shared from Brexit and rioters
I’m not sure they know they’ve been lied to, they are too thick to realise that they have been sold a lie. They are just coked up, Stella fuelled racist asreholes.

Well I was more thinking about looting shops, setting cars on fire, putting house windows through, targeting Moslems for violence and abuse etc. to be honest with you.
Yeah, I just meant the thuggish element perhaps had a different outlet in those days. Plus, they could do it every Saturday if they wanted.

Pretty sure racist thuggery and riots were going on in the 80s occasionally weren’t they?

I just think British society will always have this element to it. You can control/restrict for a time but I don’t know if you can eradicate it completely.

If a white British teenager had been the murderer, there wouldn't be any rampages. It's absolutely about race and I agree with others that it's been fomented by opportunist, populist politicians over the last 10 years, in particular.

There's some truth in that; the Lucy Letby killings were not, for example, met with similar concern about "protecting children".

I do think there's a political backlash element to this too though. We live in a post-Trump world where the reaction to electoral defeat is to get out there and smash. "The government isn't listening to us" is a bit thick when the government had been in power for 3 weeks and, this far, has done what it said it would do.

I wonder how those involved in the carnage yesterday have woke up this morning feeling, are they proud, do they feel accomplished, I wonder if they of them feel ashamed or guilt.
The thick ones will feel chuffed, the slightly less dumb ones will be very apprehensive about being arrested

For the vast majority of the 300 (reported number) who attended yesterday, it won’t matter what this Government do. Their agenda and actions will never be extreme enough for what they want.

Farrage’s back of a fag packet “contract” which he knew he would never to and could never have delivered, has given them a bit of hope that there’s an alternative that fits their hard right viewpoint.

Even then, I’ll be giving some of them too much credit. Some went to cause trouble and harm The Police / Foreigners. Most probably didn’t even read any manifesto, the most extreme are beyond help.

The vast proportion of the gdp shortfall is tory incompetence. Since 2010 our gdp has fallen 18% in real terms. It dwarves the Brexit contraction

I agree, this is partly a UK right wing reaction to their parties being smashed by Labour (and others) at the polls.

These thugs will quickly go to jail, I fully believe Starmer will be very hard line, and without making excuses for their stupidity, they will have been sacrificed by their political heroes like Farage and co.

true, but the point is brexiteers were told we would get great contracts around the world and business would be booming, the opportunity was immeasurable. Instead we got a contraction, and it was always going to be that. Yes the austerity contraction was greater, but in 2016 they were promised something that was undeliverable.

And they entrusted a group who never had the faintest idea how to deliver it.

But there are also plenty of people shouting fascistic chants and words. Plenty of people wearing their flag and acting ultra nationalistic, plenty of extremist right wing words about harming foreign people.

We have to be honest about this too. No not everyone is a far right nutjob. Some are, some are right wing ultra-nationalist, others are just the scummy underclasses
“Scummy underclasses” I thought you a better man than that I have met many of what you might call underclass , the majority are decent, if downtrodden and desperate
