Priority points system

Agreed. Everyone then gets the same opportunity.
Everyone got their opinions but how is that fair? We have a hard core of I say 1500 who go to all away games. For me I think its entirely right, that they get priority (along with being a SC holder of course)

if season ticket holders are denied a chance. It's been selected as the system after consultation with fans who want to guarantee that they themselves will always get a ticket, because they can afford to go to every gam

There is a difference Shaun. At least all season card holders get the chance to try for a ticket if priority is given to all season card holders. Some season card holders didn’t even get the chance to apply because of an abuse of the system.
Imagine if we went up, this kept happening and it created a closed shop. A season ticket would soon lose its value.
It cant be a closed shop though, its on a 2 year cycle.

All season card holders did have chance to apply for the Man Utd tickets as it went to 140 points. Yes some were unsuccessful but that will always be the case if theres less tickets than SC holders.

Edit - All season card holders who have had one for 2 years granted
Precisely my point with regards to the value of a season ticket.

Would it make a difference if that two year cycle was brought down to one? This would have meant every single one of the season card holders would have had a chance

I agree about tickets being passed on, it will always happen, but as mentioned earlier, a ballot is the fairest way of ticket allocation if there aren't enough tickets for all season ticket holders.
It's the fairest way if you agree that someone who hasn't been to an away match for 10 years has the same opportunity to get a ticket for a glory game as someone who regularly goes to say 6 or 7 away matches a season including somewhere hard to get to on a Tuesday night.

Why the ten years?

A young fan buying a season ticket for the first time should have the same chance as other season ticket holders, regardless of how much he has put into other clubs coffers.

This makes some sense for a one-off match like this where there is unusual high demand but where this system fails completely is high demand for every single game because whoever gets a ticket for the 1st game is at the front of the queue for every subsequent game and that isn't fair.

What if we only get 500 tickets for a tie, how do you decide fairly which 500 of the 1500 superfans gets to go if they all have the same points? Answer that and the answer is the same for season ticket holders as a whole.

Noones called them superfans. They are fans like we all are who follow the team week in week out.

When you get a ticket you get 3 points. Its not necessarily right that means you are in front for the next ticket. That depends on what your points are and what tier the tickets are sold at. Nothing changes if we get 500 tickets. All fans who are at the tier that is mentioned first, whether its 160 points or whatever will have a chance to get a ticket

That’s unrealistic though as the 1500 could and will go to United. They got the option first. Had the bar been set at 70 then theyd be in with 16000 and might have missed out.
If an occasion arose where there was less tickets than fans in the highest bracket then it would likely be first come first served.
like Eindhoven where season ticket holders missed out

Ten Years? Random number pulled out of the air.

I understand your point about new fans wanting to buy tickets but as the points system allocates points for having a season ticket and runs on a two year cycle then any youngster with a season ticket will have a chance of a ticket in most games?

Now we're getting somewhere.

What happens if the next match and the one after that are also only 500 tickets? You have 1500 of the most dedicated fans but the 500 winners of the 1st lottery for tickets are guaranteed to win the next 2. The other 1000 don't get a sniff. What happens if that is the case for an entire season? Would we still think the priority system is the best possible system? 500 people probably do. They've been to every match home and away so deserve to go to them all after all.

Why should all the season card holders have the same chance. Those who actually go to away games and put their money into the club rightly have more points.
If it is brought down to one year that is doing away with the loyalty of some fans who go away on a regular basis. You may as well just have a ballot then or just a free for all. The system we have is not perfect but it is the best we have had in my lifetime. I am speaking as someone who normally goes to most away games but this season I have cut back massively. Not going to Man U, not going to Blackburn and have missed a few others I would nomally go to. Love the matches but is the constant dashing for trains that does my head in, thats all supposing you can get back after match.

I realise that not everyone can go to lots of away games for financial reasons, work restrictions, and countless other reasons. That I am afraid is life. I have retired now but when I worked offshore one year I only saw 6 home games. It was what it was. Yes I moaned at the time but lifes priorities came first.

Its strange that this subject has raised its head after the sellout of a "glory game" and with others maybe thinking we really do have a sniff of promotion to the Premier League. As soon as we come back down again they will give up theire S/Ts like before. History keeps repeating itself. We will be back then to basically the core we have now. As I said above the system is the best we have had.

If the argument is that all season ticket holders should have the same opportunity for away tickets regardless of how many away games someone's been to why stop there?

What about the guy who can't afford a season ticket but goes to say 12 home games in a season, goes to the odd away game where tickets go on general sale but would love the chance of going to a big away game? Why isn't someone like him given the same chance?

Because, like the other season ticket holders, they've backed the club up front. The bloke going to a few games, which includes me, hasn't.

A ballot of season ticket holders isn't a free for all. Have we ever tried it?
