Private Eye delivers the beginner's guide to Houchens Teesworks:

Having read the articles and this podcast I am absolutely aghast at why the local media have not jumped all over this. I can only assume they are complicit.

There is a scandal here on a huge huge scale. Two businessmen and their families are making large sums of money from the British taxpayer and there appears to be no public scrutiny or accountability.

It all stinks. And big time. These side stories of the security for the site given to a man who spent time in prison for drug dealing is just incredible.

Its a reflection of how rotten to the core this nation has descended under these absolute charlatans running the country.

The local media are now all owned and run by the massive media groups, they are more than happy to tow the line and not rock the boat any more ... Local independent journalism is dead.

Don't know what the fuss is about, perfectly normal for 2 blokes to have 90% share in a publicly financed "venture" worth 100s of £millions with none of the debt and all of the profits with the ability to cherry pick the best assets and give key work to friends and family with absolutely no scrutiny or accountability, all for £500k.

Nothing to see here.

Incredible that this is allowed to carry on..where and who is doing all the checks on propriety ? stinks to high heaven and I hope ALL those involved get their just desserts..ALL OF THEM !!!!

This needs to be widely shared. Perhaps someone more tech savvy than me could get it up on fb and Twitter?
It needs sharing, the excellent "Tees Valley Monitor" does a great job sharing it on Twitter and on it's Facebook account, but it needs more local people to point our exactly what is happening on Teesside.

If you look at the Evening Gazette website or follow a link that takes you to another regional newspaper you'll see they are all the same. The same format, the same S**tty videos, the same search function that doesn't work.

This Birmingham Mail site could be the Gazette but for the colour scheme.

Jesus, that sounds even worse than I thought it was, a lot worse.

His freeport idea was possibly worse than his airport idea, and a lot more crooked. He's either just become more and more bent (likely), or been backed into a corner via his naivety, but either way his pockets will be being lined an public money gifted to individuals.

I'm glad the turbine place has gone over that way, and other green tech, at least that's allowing in "modern" industry, in the place of "outdated" industry, but the cost this has come at is ludicrous, and it's been handled extremely poorly, or criminally. If we had made money from the scrap, or had been doing well out of it, then they would have been publishing the numbers, but hiding them clearly means something is up.

To me, the only people who seem to support Ben Airport seem to be:
1 - People who do ok, but who have no concept of budget, and spend every penny they get in the wrong places
2 - People who say they like airports, but don't use airports
3 - People who like local airports, but who drive 100 miles to Manchester to save £50 on a flight
4 - People who have lucked into money, which makes them think they know more than others (they often don't)
5 - People who get duped by simple marketing tactics

I didn't realise that Watson (Drug dealer) was providing the security on the site.

This whole shenanigan is one huge tangled web of deceit and people are becoming very rich from it.
It's always been like that with security, been like that since the mafia used to force people to pay them for "protection".

The guys stood on "Security" are the same for any construction site, they're often immigrants, who are paid a pittance. I always feel sorry for them, as they're just being taken advantage of.
They're not actually there as security though, as they won't actually do anything (and nor could they by law, and they would be outnumbered anyway). They don't even have the backup of the police, as there aren't any. The cops also have a lot higher priorities than protecting scrap or heavy machinery which is all tracked and can be electronically disabled anyway.

It's telling that more folk on here have reacted to a story about a pile of shipping container takeaways, than this land grab theft of millions of £'s worth of land that ought to belong to the local government. Instead its being gifted to opportunist privateers empowered by crooked politicians, and a local official who demonstrates his lack of business acumen yet again.
It's absolutely stinking and misconduct in public office imo.

What's even worse about this is Preston and the 3 Tories with the Independent councillors on Middlesbrough Council are desperate to kick start the MDC with Houchen, Preston, Smiles- his Tory deputy and Turner the Tory PCC with 2 others on the board, where it will grab all Middlesbrough councils town center assets for free.

Properties including but no way limited to.

Broadcasting House
The Bus Station
Crown Bingo- which Preston has just paid £750,000 of our money
The Civic center
The Cleveland center
Binns
