re the foden situation - he needs to be played

We have probably the best passer of a ball in Europe and an outstanding dead ball player in Alexander Arnold and Southgate sees him as 4th choice on the right - he should be on the plane with Foden

It’s a team game — and there’s another game to play. I’m sure we’ll see Foden at sometime but I agree that perhaps Foden should have started. Let’s face facts though , England were second best in terms of fight and desire. The US won most of the midfield duels, loose balls — we can be thankful that we got a point.

If trent was playing weah would have had a field day against him. Liverpool play with 3 cdms sitting

This was a "don't lose" game. He'll play later.
Every game is a don't lose game for Gareth.

He was 1-0 up in a European Championship final and played for pens.

He's done wonders in the development of the England side and trusting the younger players , he's transformed the set up of the national team. I think though that he would be more suited to a director of football type role, not the in game decision making stuff.

What a load of tosh Jedi! If every player spat their dummy out like you suggest Foden should do, the England team would be a lot worse off.

I'm pretty much Phil Foden's biggest fan on here and I agree that he should be in the team, but his success is partly down to his natural ability and partly down to his attitude, i.e. he isn't a selfish tosser who flounces off anytime he doesn't get his own way.

We are on course to win the group and whilst tonight's game - and the absence of Foden - was disappointing, there's no reason to get hysterical and suggest such nonsense as you have on this post.

The problem is though that all the guys who had a go at managing the side before him made an absolute hash of it, way worse than Southgate has.

It was a terrible performance, but it's not changed much.

It's quite obvious, reading between the lines, that England were disappointed with the performance but didn't want to expend the energy needed to win the game.

It was the USMNT's cup final. They were playing for respect and had built up the game hugely over there. They were the better team and deserved to win.

However, they didn't win. And now they need to beat a resurgent Iran team after running themselves ragged for 90 vs England.

England need to do the business (not lose by 5 goals) against an equally motivated, but drained, Wales side.

USA had more energy and more desire ... reminded me of a lot of Boros performances under Wilder. Totally different from the Iran game ... Not a lot of difference between Iran and USA in my opinion. They were scared against England , the USA certainly were not. Watched it in Thailand at 2am start without English commentary which I liked as it made you make your own mind up
