Just being announced that I'm going to be made redundant - Not what i expected when i logged in this morning.

If anyone knows of any IT Account Manager/Service Manager roles then do let me know.

Is it to early for a pint?

Sorry to hear of your plight and are sure something will come along for you, things have a way of working out.

It is never too early for a pint but is that the answer?

Hope you find something asap and you never know, it could well end up being a good thing, although it won't feel like it now.

If you get a decent redundancy package and find a new job relatively quickly then you might end up quids in.

Good luck with it.

Here are some tips - a lot might be obvious but hopefully one or two are useful;
(This is just my opinion of searching for jobs in the IT sector).

To consider;
  • Create / update your LinkedIN profile, adding as many old contacts as you can find. Add a “status” saying that you are looking for a new role? Participating in conversation in comments helps to get your views up.
  • Search on Jobserve for contract roles. If you apply, follow up the application with a brief call to the agent. Jobserve is the best place to look for contract roles.
  • Jobsite & Reed are the best places to register your CV. Jobsite and Reed are also the best sites to look at for permanent jobs. Don’t go long periods without logging in, as recruiters often do a search by candidates who have been “active” recently.
  • Maybe have a clear “objective” at the top of your CV. For example “looking for contract IT Delivery role happy to work anywhere for the right role. Available immediately”. Consider – what is or isn’t stated on the CV that could make someone (who may not be technical, or may not be an experienced/capable recruiter) rule out your application (location, availability, job titles on your CV compared to the vacancy)? You might also want to state “email is best initially if contacting during business hours”.
  • Of course, job adverts give an idea of market rates for particular roles. www.itjobswatch.co.uk is a good site to research on what salary you should be aiming for.
  • When dealing with recruiters, be careful that some might try to get leads out of you. Recruiter’s don’t need to know which other companies you have applied to, although I would say that it’s is fair to be asked what other opportunities you have outstanding without naming the company (i.e. I like to have a rough idea of where my role stands in a candidates list of applications).

Sorry to hear that, IT work seems to be pretty good in terms of availability at the moment, hope you find something soon. I work in a similar space so I'll ask around and see if anyone is hiring. Best of luck.

Redundancy has happened to me a couple of times, best of luck getting sorted asap.

It worked out well for me both times - although the initial "FFS" stings. Both times.
And also given weeks notice week before my 6 month probation finished, that was bollox (company was planning to shut Manchester office but no one knew at the time, easier to get rid of me then rather than pay a month's pay .......). This was beginning of December too .....

You should have a couple of months to get sorted while due process is carried out?

Have a beer now, get your head together, then get your CV fired off to as many (decent) agencies as possible. Sure something will turn up ......even if you have to take a bit of a sideways/slight backwards step.

Good luck👍

Feel for anyone going through that. It's really tough.

It's a sunny day. Go into the countryside and get some fresh air.

Your situation was mine 10 years ago - same role/industry with 15 years in.

I had a bit of time to negotiate my situation and spent some picking up a couple of formal industry qualifications. After which the quality and volume of opportunities were significantly boosted.

Now I earn significantly more, work fewer hours and have a much better work life balance. Another big bonus is no more big corporate mushroom management b.s.

BTW your former employers competitors might be worth exploring.
I had a few valuable clients foĺlow me when i started elswhere. My old line managers got pelters for losing one particular client contract worth over £1m.

It will work out I'm sure.

Good luck.

That’s a bit rubbish isn’t it.
Sounds like you are in an industry where you should find a suitable replacement - hope it works out.

And, a small point if I may, - It’s your job that is being made redundant.
You are as good as you always were 👍
