He scored his 1st of 3 Boro 1st team goals when netting the 1st away to QPR, Peter Brine scored our 2nd, his 1st of the season also, unfortunately we lost the game 4-2 at Loftus Road

Remember being really excited by him signing. Honestly thought we had a right gem - didn’t work out that way
Hi Nosmo-king, my thoughts exactly, we just thought the team was going to continue improving & a goalscorer was our final piece of the jigsaw, IMHO, the Arsenal cup game was his only good performance in a Boro shirt, but the team was excellent that day

I didn't see many Boro games live when he played, but from reports I heard his impact was solid but not great. I alway saw him as a midfielder who can chip in with a few goals. Jack should have spent a bit more (say £150k) and gone an all out to get a clear forward to replace John Hickton during the 1975/6 season.

I still viewed the Boro through rose tinted specs back then but Boersma was an immense disappointment. I remember that there used to be an audible groan round the ground whenever he received the ball.

Very disappointing signing - never really worked for him or us.... from Wiki:

For some strange reason my only lasting memory of Boersma is of him playing with a ripped sock. His football mustn't have made much of an impression on me.

Liverpool vs Boro FAC quarter final was the subject of a recent thread. I remember Boersma coming on as sub when we were behind and the Liverpool fans derision . 'Look who they're bringing on ha ha ha'...etc.

Remember seeing him getting sent off in one of his first games, wasn't it the 3rd round cup game home to Bury in Jan 1976? Thrilling 0-0. Went to the replay at Gigg Lane as well, got beat 3-2.

Yes we drew 0-0 at AP, I was in the Holgate with my brother as the team was doing warm up, players testing Jim Platt during pre match warm up, then a Boro player welled the ball over the bar & smashed my brother in the side of his face as he was chatting to me

We went 2-0 up in the replay only to lose 3-2

"I was in the Holgate"
So was I, you didn't say hello :)

"We went 2-0 up in the replay only to lose 3-2"
Tell me. No fan segregation at Gigg Lane in those days, at half time their fans all ran from one end to the other to get behind the right goal.

I did say hello but you ignored me, I was saying to my brother, why isn't FartingGnome talking to me 😏

I remember being really excited when I saw the Gazette sellers’ board saying BORO SIGN LIVERPOOL STAR! thinking we’d signed David Fairclough. Then I bought the paper and saw it was Boersma and the excitement immediately evaporated and I heard the sound of a lame fart.......

Like many others I was excited when we signed him. Then I realised that Liverpool don't let good players go. He was described as a "utility" player, meaning he was absolutely average wherever he played. Jack Charlton said in his autobiography that Boersma always seemed to be carrying a knock. Enough said.

Yep I remember that. We played Bury twice in both cups that season. Won in the League Cup, lost in the FA Cup.

We needed an out and out goalscoring centre forward to replace the ageing Big John

We needed a midfielder with pin point passing to replace the ageing Bobby Murdoch.

We needed a speedy goalscoring midfield runner to replace Foggon.

Boersma didn’t meet any of those criteria. What exactly was his role? I still don’t Know.
