Reports that we may have to wear masks forever...

I'm actually shocked at the amount of people willing to routinely wear a mask everytime they leave the house.

I dont really care what they do in Japan.

They do many things in the far East and middle East that wouldn't be accepted here but well you know we'll just run with this.

I'm more shocked at the amount of people who read something on the internet and get so wound up about it when it is obviously not true. Think that is a bit more concerning than someone willing to wear mask if they have a cold in the future to prevent giving it to anyone else.

Or an easier option would be to bring sick pay in line with countries such as Germany so when people are poorly they don't feel forced to go out to work?
I work for a company that thankfully offers full sick pay, yet you still get idiots coming in with colds, flu, sickness bugs etc spreading them around the office. As well as real sick pay we also need a huge change in our culture for not working whilst ill

Absolutely no problem wearing a mask in shops etc when feeling cold/flu symptoms in future if we were advised to. It's the responsible thing to do IMO.

It does look odd, well it used to, on the tube seeing someone from China wearing a mask on public transport, I don't think it'll be too uncommon a sight from this point onwards.

Wearing one all the time would seem a step too far when the pandemic is over, but if you're feeling ill, then why not.

Why are you so against things that might slow the spread of disease? Why do you not care what happens in Japan? Seems strange to me but I'm sure you have a valid reason

You didn't answer the question - where are these reports from?

Call me old fashioned but I can remember the days when if you went into a bank wearing a mask you could be arrested. Nowadays, if you go into a bank NOT wearing a mask you can be arrested.
In August I went into a jewellers wearing a black baseball cap, sunglasses and a black mask, and they thanked me for wearing the mask 😂😂

They never used to thank me back in the day 😉

After a quick Google, the misleading headline is from the sun.

JVT: “The pandemic has changed a lot of things. It has changed the way you and I approach hand hygiene. We all carry hand sanitiser around now, we all expect in most of the places we go into that hand sanitiser is provided at the door.

“I think there are going to be people who make a personal decision to say, you know what, when I’m in a crowded place in the winter I’m going to put a face covering on. When I’m on a tube I am going to put a face covering on.

“I really don’t think the government has any intention that we should all walk around forever and a day distinguishing each other only by peering through a face covering.

“But I think individuals at different levels will choose to keep some of the infection precautionary behaviour that we have had to adopt as a matter of absolute necessity during Covid.”

I can see it being a something a lot more people do in the winter, on public transport for instance, same with hand washing

I have to say i genuinely have not come across many people , be it at work ,friends , neighbours or family who have had a cold or flu this year.
I get the flu jab every year and normally have mild symptoms for a short while but nothing this year.
Maybe it is wearing of masks maybe not that there could be a difference

Absolutely nothing wrong with what he has said there, I'm sure the OP just read the headline though.

This is because the dominant respiratory pathogen is covid-19 not because you wear a mask.

It's very uncommon to have 2 floating around at the same time. Virology 1-0-1.

It's even less likely that influenza viruses and rhinovirus to co exist in the same season.
