Rolf Harris Dead Aged 93

Nearly bought one of his paintings once, so glad I didn't put any money into the pocket of that cnut. Wish I believed in god and stuff, because I could have some solace knowing that he's getting rogered off el diablo right now.
A mate of mine bought 2 while away on holiday on a cruise. Got off at Southampton the day it was breaking in the newspapers about what he'd been up to. 😂

I met him at a wedding a couple of years before his arrest. He was still at full national treasure status at that point. He was the godfather of the bride and she was devastated by his arrest - they had grown up with him around but no suspicion of anything even vaguely nefarious.

I met the c*nt once and there's a photo of me shaking his hand. This was years before any of the abuse stuff came out, obviously. Thought that he was a right creepy tw@t and my instincts were spot on.

Saw him twice at Glastonbury and both times he drew big crowds. Firstly Saturday lunchtime on Jazz World Stage in 2009 and a year later promoted to Pyramid stage when he opened up the Festival on Friday morning.

One of the consequences (and of course it pales by comparison) is a great bit of TV that we’ll never see in full again.

Jim Henson and Frank Oz, then Kermit and Miss Piggy on Parkinson. It’s so much fun. Problem is the first guest that night was Harris, and he’s in quite a few wide shots and joins in a bit. It might be possible to edit around him, but it’s way more time / trouble than anyone would think worth.

(I may, when I had access, have downloaded and kept the Muppets bit.)

Right at the end Parkinson gets Harris to do a bit of his act. Kermit’s reaction is, in retrospect very fitting. “You are a very strange man”.

His defence team's special investigator released a book about the trial a few years back and I was tempted to read it.

I was obsessed with the case at the time, I remember researching into it. I know one of the convictions was overturned, and the one where he was alleged to have assaulted a schoolgirl in Cambridge also seemed dodgy.

She had alleged he'd assaulted her when she was 14 and still at school. She'd said he'd appeared as a guest on some gameshow in Cambridge but she'd gotten the name of the show wrong and said it was with the BBC, when in turned out to be an ITV production. She'd also gotten the year wrong, it transpired that it happened 3 years after the date she'd alleged it had happened on (meaning she'd no longer have been at school).

I guess you have to trust that there must have been other evidence which wasn't ever brought into the public domain though, and after reading stories regarding encounters people had with him it does seem he wasn't the same man he appeared to be when he appeared on our screens.

When I heard the news today, literally the first thing I thought was…

”there’ll be a post on FMTTM about it…” and I chuckled to my self…😂

I couldn't check at the time and forgot all about it until I saw it on the bbc website…

I remember how people really got offended by the joking about the death of a national icon…
