Rooney appointed Derby boss

So they can’t pay the players but can give a multi millionaire a 2.5 year deal on big bucks no doubt. I’m sure he will get the best out of those players in that context.

Yes this is clearly one of the issues. And I really can't see it having a happy ending.

I wonder what their fans all think of Mel Morris now. When they signed Rooney he was extremely popular.

Wonder how much of his £90k a week he's given up?

Wayne Rooney seems to get a lot of hate on here. Is it because he is with Derby or what?
Honestly don't know.

Hope he does well. More English players should be encouraged to take up management and coaching, it's the only way this country finds its own football identity instead of trying to copy other countries.

He was also one of the finest English players to grace the game in this country. His medal count is proof as are his personal accolades.

Post of the day. Cheers. He'll do well for us no problem.

Lots of hate because it's Derby County. They need to get out more.

I'll have no issue with Derby after Mel Morris **** off.

Got no issue with Rooney at all, but I do think it's always going to be a fun little fact that it was a heavy defeat to Middlesbrough that retired him as a player.

Be fair, one of the best English players of a generation has officially retired.
That is big news.

Interim manager staying on full time is not, so you have a point in regards to that.
Can you tell me of all those England goals he actually scored were in an International tournament ( UEFA , World finals ) ? Not qualifiers but an actual proper tournament .

I can't be arsed checking for you.
I also said English, not England.

He undeniably had a stellar career at Manchester United and scored many important goals for them.

Failed to deliver for England in tournaments, admittedly not all his fault but was petulant towards fans on occasion too. A million goals in qualifiers had little tangible impact yet he now holds all the records over players who were better than him.

Used to pay grandmas for sex.

Used to behave like a tosser over contracts, linked with Man City repeatedly when they weren't even good and had just got all the money, and was clearly willing to sign for them and sacrifice footballing achievement in favour of more money. Yes, lots do it but it was so boring how it dominated the headlines and wasn't at all endearing on his behalf.

Signed for Derby when they were trying to buy the Championship via a loophole, largely paid for by a gambling company, and they're now in deep financial trouble in no small part because of his ridiculous wage which delivers no value. He'll be gone by the summer.

Don't see Rooney as a Manager to be honest, doesn't appear to have the tactical awareness or man Management needed, just look at Woodgate
I have nothing against him but just doesn't seem a good fit for me.

I hope Kane manages to beat Rooneys record. Love Kane.

I'd be shocked if he didn't.
Needs 22 more, he scored 12 in 2019 alone.
Surprisingly didn't score for England in 2020, but there were fewer games, and it was a strange year all round.

Yes very achievable. Would be great if we can get a trophy too in that time

Very good point. I can't recall him scoring any important goals in major finals. On the world stage alongside the likes of Messi, Ronaldo, etal he was a very small fish in a large pool. I recall him either sticking two fingers up, or swearing, at England fans after one awful performance against a lower team in the World cup finals. Poor temperament and performances on the world stage, sadly.
