Russia fires warning shots at British Warship

Isn't a point of contetion also whether or not the waters are Russian in the first place? It looks like they are the only ones who think that.
I bet Belarus do to. And probably Moldova. Good point though. "you're in Russian waters"
"Really? Because our charts say Ukranian waters..."

Aye but the Russians are trustworthy yes?
I understand the Russians are not trustworthy because our trustworthy government told me so. However, I suppose our trustworthy government may have an agenda. and not be so trustworthy.
I was told by our trustworthy government that the Russians wanted to invade western Europe after the Second World War but never told the reason why. I was also told by our trustworthy government that Churchill wanted to carry on through Germany and fight against the Russians who had just lost 22million people helping us defeat the Germans.- Who would want a friend like that?
I am also told that there are NATO bases in most countries that border Russia. I think the Russians may be right to distrust the west. Just imagine there were Russian bases in Canada, Mexico, West Indies. What would the USA's reaction be?
Whenever a Russian warship sails in International Waters in the North Sea, Irish Sea or English Channel they are shadowed by our Royal Navy.
So, who is trustworthy?

Our government is untrustworthy. Kier Starmer however isn't on hunger strike in a UK jail.

Plus Stalin = bad thing. If we had turned right out of Italy we might have been able to save Poland form a dictatorship nearly as bad as the one we went to war for.

Well you go and cheer on a dictator who has opposition politicians murdered outside the Kremlin, attempts to murder others and cracks down on dissent and is making life incredibly difficult for ordinary citizens (rather like that bastion of freedom which was the USSR).

The same USSR which signed a non-aggression pact with the nazis in order to carve up Poland (and execute a large part of the military). The same Stalin who accepted much aid from the US, ignored intelligence and threw troops to die like confetti. Their sacrifice should never be forgotten but many should never have perished. The post war Soviet Union was also famous for not dabbling in other countries politics too eh? We shadow ships and aircraft in our water/airspace just like most countries do, the point is that the Crimea was illegally annexed and those waters are internationally recognised as Ukrainian, even though I do have some sympathy for Russia over the historical significance of Crimea to them.

Putin is a former KGB gangster and to compare him to western democracies is quite frankly hilarious. Our government is an inept shower of entitled imbeciles and incompetents, but they are not in the same league as the Russian government. If I showed this kind of tripe to some of my friends back in Moscow they’d despair.

I'm not sure Stalin is still in charge. I think your calendar is broken, it appears to be 80 years slow.

Defender is the best class of air defence destroyer in the world... I was under the impression she is sailing with the USS The Suillivans and HNLMS Evertsan as well as a few Ukrainian Navy vessels.

The Russians would be daft to try anything so stupid as any threat would be shot down before it got anywhere near the ship.

From the source I have read it was a Russian training exercise and they gave prior warning to all vessels in the area beforehand. The fact that Defender was so close suggests we were gathering intelligence.

The Russians are just spinning it up just like they are doing off Hawaii with the US Pacific Fleet.
I served on two type 45s and I'm not sure I'd have ever wanted to go to war on them. I spent the majority of the time in Pompey broken down.

The spec sheet tells people they are amazing. Yet had they been cars you'd have given them back after all the issues they have (the new shiny carriers are worse).

It's not just the navy. The new army tanks are an absolute disaster.

I seriously doubt they were shot at. I hope not as I'm still in the recal time frame if the country goes to war 😕

I am cheering nobody Smoggle so get back in your pram. I was pointing out that the UK are just as (mis) trustworthy as the Russians.

I live in Russia and have lived in and traveled the former USSR for most of the past decade, I’m basing what I know on actually meeting people here and seeing their governments in action so you can clear off with your patronising pram comment.

Our government are untrustworthy and I can’t stand the arrogant gets but you’re absolutely bonkers if you think we’re in the same league as Russia’s corrupt authoritarian mafia state, we have the option to vote out our leaders in open elections (even if there are major concerns with the role of dodgy social media and foreign agencies interfering (Russia again eh?!)) and we have independent bodies working here and a free press (again, not currently perfect I’ll admit), many Russians would love the same and believe me Putin isn’t as popular as he’s made out in the over here

I went to Constanta and Odessa in 1976 on HMS Devonshire, and we were shadowed everywhere by the Ruski’s, it was fun.

As with China's territorial ambitions, it is very risky when the 'contention' involves armed forces. No room for error.

Stalin wanting to carry out past Germany is something Anthony Beevor mentions in one of his books. The Americans dropping the nuclear bomb made Stalin change those plans.

True the engines are sh it… but when they work ( and they do work more often than not now) they are ok…

as for Samson… that is world class and they are looking to fit a slimed down new version onto the new type 26 and 31 frigates
