Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Belarus, United States...

I don't know if anybody else has been keeping an eye on developments on the Russian/Ukraine border but the above certainly peaked my interest earlier.

Are the yanks war mongering again willing to sacrifice Ukraine for Russia's help with China (as mentioned in the twitter thread) or are they simply just standing idly by and watching but still need to be seen to be a strong adversary?

The Russians have got 90,000 troops and a battalion of battle tanks on the border, they're "probably" just testing the Western response.
I've seen the videos of tanks and troop carriers been moved by train towards the border yes. What's worrying is the noises coming from Poland and Belarus. One rumour I read was the poles are worries about the Russians blocking their gas supplies for the winter.

Joe Biden's biggest donors have billions invested in China. I find it hard to believe Larry Fink and Michael Bloomberg would look favourably on their man going to war with China - though they may talk tough for PR reasons. BlackRock - run by Larry Fink - just launched an asset fund in China with assets around $1 billion. And Larry is a big supporter of Joe's new Environmental Social Governance, the corporate equivalent of China's social credit score. It's how the US government will control business in future. Bloomberg makes around 15% of it's revenues from China - Fink and Bloomberg were among Biden's biggest campaign contributors running into the 10's of millions.

Biden just gifted the Chinese a fully functional airbase in Afghanistan. They could have used some of the billions of dollars worth of weaponry they left behind to destroy the runway (which can handle the heaviest bombers), but they chose not to. I doubt that was because they were in a hurry.

The airbase will give the Chinese a forward outpost to provide air cover for the main sea lanes between Iran, Pakistan and China. Which happens to be the main supply route for oil to China. Not to mention a fantastic strategic asset against their main foe in South Asia.

China has been talking with the Taliban since 2014. No doubt they'll be given the rights to develop Lithium extraction and solidify the Chinese hold on the global lithium market (they control around 80% of refining at the moment).

And then there's Hunter Biden's business dealings to consider.

"The Coming War on China", from award winning journalist John Pilger, reveals what the news doesn’t – that the world’s greatest military power, the United States, and the world’s second economic power, China, both nuclear-armed, may well be on the road to war.

Nuclear war is not only imaginable, but planned.

The greatest build-up of NATO military forces since the Second World War is under way on the western borders of Russia.

On the other side of the world, the rise of China is viewed in Washington as a threat to American dominance. To counter this, President Obama announced a ‘pivot to Asia’, which meant that almost two-thirds of all US naval forces would be transferred to Asia and the Pacific, their weapons aimed at China.

A policy which has been taken up by his successor Donald Trump, who during his election campaign said “We can’t continue to allow China to rape our country and that’s what they’re doing”.

Filmed on five possible front-lines across Asia and the Pacific over two years, the story is told in chapters that connect a secret and ‘forgotten’ past to the rapacious actions of great power today and to a resistance, of which little is known in the West.

I suspect we have all just become accustomed to the threat of nuclear war so ignore it.

That doesn't mean it won't happen. We live in a very unstable world.

I try not to fear this stuff, that breeds hate and you see the hatred of foreigners running rife through the world. I would think that the most likely 'war' would be cyber. I'm not sure why China would like to cause it's own destruction by firing on the US etc.

All you need to do nowadays to ruin a country is to manipulate that country's population into say, leaving the EU or voting in someone like Boris Johnson. Far more effective than nuking them and in turn getting nuked yourself.

Look at what is happening with Taiwan. The Chinese view it as their own & it is viable that they would have the ability to take it back soon.
Certainly - it's worrying - but the US aren't obliged to defend them so have the option just to roll over. Their treaty is very carefully worded as to not make them liable to enter a war if that happens.

Sure , but Taiwan is a democracy & a major economic nation. People will draw parallels to what we did before WW2 re AH .
China is becoming more aggressive. One cld argue that the US has been for decades I suppose , but ....

Its always been viable hasn't it? They've always claimed it as China. We should probably be more worried about what they are doing in Hong Kong 🇭🇰

The truth is nuclear conflict is unthinkable until its not.

China are spending heavily on their armed forces the hypersonic glide missile is very difficult to bring down with current ballistic defences.

The j31 stealth fighter starts to get very close to anything the US can bring to bear and its carrier ready.

You would have to ask why they are spending this kind of money. They don't like the status quo, you would imagine.
