I didn’t actually mean it in a negative way. I remember the game Akpom got his Hat trick and those goals from the cross to the finishes were unreal - they always stick in my mind for that reason. He only assisted Akpom 4 times out of his 12 assists for Boro. This narrative of Akpom making him look good his horse**** and that's putting it politely.
I know you didn't... post was aimed at others even though I quoted your post. (y)I didn’t actually mean it in a negative way. I remember the game Akpom got his Hat trick and those goals from the cross to the finishes were unreal - they always stick in my mind for that reason.
He’s shown us that he can be an assist machine. I’m all for players who increase our chances of scoring goals.
Agree with this 100%, against average teams he did well, average Championship teams. don't mention Brighton FA cup or Burnley away.He clearly cannot defend.
If there isnt a skillful right winger or similar right back in the division, then he will do well.
It's recruitment in the championship, within a very modest budget, there is always going to be elements to players games that need improvment. If Giles was as accomplished at the defensive side of the game as he is the attacking elements, he'd be in the England squad at the Euro's!!Agree with this 100%, against average teams he did well, average Championship teams. don't mention Brighton FA cup or Burnley away.
And there's the problem. Giles came on at half time for Hull against us, we scored because of Giles poor defending fact, he never picked up Jones, too busy ball watching, away at Burnley, they targeted our left hand side and tortured Giles all game.. I was there unfortunately and seen him constantly ball watching and not picking up his runners off the ball.
Wolves sent him out on loan over several years, and he never kicked a ball for them, Yes he did well for us in the 1st half of his loan season, but then a very average 2nd half of the season, but hang on....Luton bought him for over 5M, again failed to hold a place down in there team, spending most of his short time there warming the bench, Hull come in, offer a loan deal with guarantee to buy, and again failed to hold a place down in the team. there is a common theme here... not sure what tho!!!
Some on here seem to think Giles is the new Maldini.
Yeah some good points, If he signs, I want him to do well, I just hope he improves defensively. It's recruitment in the championship, within a very modest budget, there is always going to be elements to players games that need improvment. If Giles was as accomplished at the defensive side of the game as he is the attacking elements, he'd be in the England squad at the Euro's!!
Carrick's role, is to improve him to a level where teams cant overly exploit that area, or, as a team find a tactic to protect Giles, whilst not compromising our attacking intent. I'm confident he can do that.
And presumably Michael is too.Carrick's role, is to improve him to a level where teams cant overly exploit that area, or, as a team find a tactic to protect Giles, whilst not compromising our attacking intent. I'm confident he can do that.
This is the spiritWe are going to score that many his defending wont matter
Unless they is any big sales aka Mcgree goes we be all set and have them in earlySo if we get Giles, then another striker/forward and is that us set?
