'Sammy Ameobi to Middlesbrough is all-but done'

Chris Wilder mentioned recently he and Fisher were likely out for the season.
Neil Warnock told me that he would be out longer than that. I really hope that is not the case.

Isnt it only fair to the players to be offered the chance to terminate and honour their contracts?
What realistic chance does Sammy have of playing at the top end of football again? - especially after such a serious injury?
Likewise Fisher.

Its not the end of the world to have to retire from professional football due to medical reasons.
Pushing to play when not able will create huge problems as they get older.

Pretty harsh I think.. you only have to look at Duncan Watmore thrown on the scrapheap by Sunderland after this injuries he suffered. Hopefully Patrick Roberts goes on to do for them what Duncan has done for us. Darnell Fisher was superb for us and i'd like to think he can still play a part for us at the end of the season.

Sammy Ameobi is a strange one, lots of talk about a 'flare up' of what he's had previously.. which he did recover from and was able to contribute massively for his previous teams. I see him more as a striker than a winger tbh (especially in the system Wilder plays) my concern with Ameobi is that we have seen absolutely nothing of him.. no sign what so ever. Comments have been made about looking at players previous injury record a lot closer a criticism of recruitment under Warnock perhaps, little insinuations that Sam Morsy was a little to over enthusiastic in training that led to players being injured is interesting and there's always the situation that Mendez-Laing found himself in with now raises questions (for me at least) when players are mysteriously 'injured'

I'm hopeful that Fisher and Ameobi can return and give us an extra lift.. the hollywood ending is that the player written off comes back against the odds to score the winning goal that gets us promoted!

Maybe so, but theres no problem handing them what they are owed.
Ameobi is approaching 30 and Fisher is 28 this year.
Would rather clear the decks and make room....
Both could do their training badges or go off to Uni / College(y)

Both in the peak years of their careers, 30 is not the 30 of 10 years ago and injuries that would have previously finished careers can now be treated. Clear the decks and make room? Who for? We still have to pay them and we have room for players now.

If either one of them is able to contribute at the end of the season and we get promoted then we're quids in. You can't just chuck a player in the bin if they get injured or write them off because they turn 30 in 2024!! Utter Madness!?!?

No.
Its not about chuckin anyone in the bin.
Pay them what they are owed or keep them on the treatment table until the contract ends.
We have no obligation to keep anyone and they have no obligation to us once the contract ends.
Give them the choice.
Neither are able to contribute right now and the club cannot rely on "jam tomorrow".
We will see. (y)

I spoke to Darnell in December at Rockliffe.
He said March earliest realistically.
I wished him luck and can only say what a smashing bloke he is to talk to.

Similarly Marc Bola is a smashing lad, but looks to be March at the earliest too.

Whenever I've seen Sammy at Rockliffe - which is only half a dozen times since he signed, he has looked glum. It must be sickening to be nearing the end of a career and get injuries like that.
Of course they are financially sound, but it will be emotionally tough for anyone.

Darnel Fischer and Marc Bola back next week then?

Harsh to say but Ameobi being injured has probably been a stroke of good fortune. Jones got his chance early because we had nobody else there. He might never have had that run to prove himself if Ameobi had been fit. Might have ended up out on loan somewhere even.

The good news is I haven't seen Marc at the Spa for a while now. Good news because I only really see them when they are significantly injured.
I think Darnell will be a fair bit longer still.

I like to give them space rather than bother the lads if they are in. I also wouldn't ask them sensitive stuff and wouldn't post it when they do talk.
