The Naval warfare takes place every Monday, Thursday and Saturday at 3pm in July and August. Adults £4.50, Children £2.50 and a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) £12.00.

"Little has changed since it started, and although some of the smaller boats are now electrically operated (from 1929) the larger ones are still manually operated and steered by Scarborough Council employees hidden within the boat!

Did you know pre-show set up on each day takes the small Peasholm Park team around 8hrs! Work starts each warfare day at 0630 hrs and includes the laying of cables, fireworks and props.

The 30 minute battle has entertained families for generations over the years, and is a memorable and unforgettable experience for all. The Naval Warfare takes place in the colourful surroundings of the oriental themed park, with a central island to explore, Pagoda, waterfalls and other oriental features surrounded by a lake filled with dragon shaped pleasure boats for hire."

A mate of mine took a summer job driving one of the boats a few years back. Said it was absolute agony getting constant electric shocks from the thing

Yeah was great and definitely a highlight to our hols back in late 70s early 80s my grandad always told me there was men in the boats and I never believed him lol

Peasholm Park has barely changed in the 50 years I have been visiting it.

Scarborough was our summer holiday every year as a kid and have seen the Naval warfare many times over the years, both as a child and a parent. Very happy memories.

Going over to the island at night was a magical place, and you could check the boars out in their harbor anybody remember the flea circus right at the very top?

I remember this from short breaks in Scarborough as a kid. I’d completely forgotten about it tbh, thanks for posting, got a pretty nostalgic feeling right now

Aw yeah the flea circus was class always remember me nanna getting chased by some swans or geese one time it was so funny but my nan didn’t think so lol she never went again

I'm surprised that gets past health and safety!

The next two Oliver's Mount race meetings have been cancelled due to safety issues of buildings in the paddock area. Looking forward to the Gold Cup though.

Good news for anyone visiting Scarborough. The Victorians knew a thing about simple pleasures when they created the park. I loved the Japanese style shelters and bird cages. The wood and flowers, small ponds for toy boats. The boating lake and Island. Concerts on the lake. Magical place

Used to love Peasholm as a kid on holiday. Loved naval war fare and the island at night.
However my real highlight was the smaller boating lakes were I used to take my model yacht. I had hours of fun as a kid.

Can anyone remember the watersplash nearer to the swimming pool.

I also remember swimming in the sea near Scalby Mills and being careful to avoid the poo floating in the sea. How naive were we in those days :)

Yep got the tee shirt for all of those things, not forgetting the penny slots, ice cream, waffles fishing with handlines and smelly mussels.
