Selling stuff to EU countries

Thanks for speaking out about this, it's actually quite brave of you considering 90% (guess) of this board are remainers and I am sure you get a lot of flak as a result.

Question - what is it exactly that you feel you have been deceived about?
Red
Think he’s stating that he expected our Tory mps to be grown ups about the consequences of a hard Brexit (thin deal) and figure out how to trade with the eu which meant as little cost as possible to the consumers of this country
And he didn’t get that because an ultra right wing faction of political people ran the negotiations and this terrible situation is the result
That’s why he is disappointed

I hope this continues as the Tories lose more and more credibility and Brexit gets it’s right ful label of a massive self destructive act by the UK electorate
It can only serve to bring down this government ASAP 👍👍

Handling costs will be from the courier you used. Use a different courier.
With most couriers you can opt to pay the vat on behalf of the customer and you can then claim it back on your vat return. You can also pay the duty for the customer but can't claim that back.

VAT falls due in the country where a good or service is provided, in this case Germany. You would, therefore, need to be VAT registered in Germany (and each and every other EU/EEA country) in order to be able to do this, which is highly unlikely for a bloke selling individual records.

In addition, you would also need to complete and send the appropriate documentation with the order, so as to demonstrate to the customs authorities in Germany (or whichever EU/EEA country) that the appropriate VAT has already been charged.

If anyone has ever made the mistake of ordering something online from the US or any other non-EU country, they will be familiar with the additional duty, VAT and Royal Mail handling fees incurred. These can easily have the effect of doubling the anticipated cost of the item. And that's not even including the chew of having to physically go to the sorting office to pay in person and collect the item.

Still, blue passports eh?

Red H - Are you able to find a carrier wh will handle the paperwork of deliveries into the EU at a lower price than 25 euros? it seems an awful lot to check the duty etc on one item. When the systems settle down I am sure costs will drop from 25 euros for one small item. It must have taken 5 minutes to do to for an experienced person to do with the right software.

What is your average order value to an EU customer (I expect the handing charge is fixed so for bigger orders it hurts less)

If German customers are experiencing this it will be the same for EU busineses supplying a customer in the UK, so you may find UK customers switch to you opposed to using a EU competitor (which also includes NI for this purpose).

All UK retail customers would have to pay you VAT @ 20% and I expect VAT in Germany is similar

What happens when you supply a US/Canada/Australian/Russian customer as far as these handling charges are concerned? e.g. are your customers there charged around £22 for one item?

Ref others with small value stuff to send - it might be better to give items to regular travellers such as family members - Items that total under approx £150 are usually ignored for tax purposes.

I guess people have got used to moving items say from the UK to Spain without any restrictions, but in the pre EU days there were restrictions which we have gone back to. On the plus side for the general public more generous duty free should be applicable from the EU into the UK.

VAT carousel/missing trader fraud with EU movements of goods has cost the UK Government a lot of money in recent years (between £500m and £1000m in 2015) . I know that may not help RH but it helps most of the UK population if it stopped.

I spoke to a coffee trader on the phone at work today. He’s had to set new website as he’s had a eu website and they won’t let him have the domain now. now had to set up .co.U.K.

the cost should be £32 for the customs declaration. this covers 1 HS code (tariff). problem is after this it is £4 per additional HS code. So when my company exports 32 different items is is £156 that we didn't pay before.

and that is, like you say, before the other side has to clear the goods through customs and pay their bit. there is a winner here somewhere but it is not us!

its okay though as we have our sovereignty back

If you don't think that billion pounds won't be swallowed up new customs officials/infrastructure and lost hours then you're mad.

But a good effort at defend the indefensible - should have you on fighting talk!

US - they always specify that the recipient pays any tax or duties imposed. In 20+ years I have yet to be charged anything.

another thing is that goods not manufactured in the UK or EU will/could be subject to tariffs if exported into the EU from the UK. o_O o_O o_O

thats terrible - theres another 5 quid gone registering that domain name - where will it end

The website was shut without warning, will lose business in eu and has connectivity problems to the new domain. It’s disruption to a business that s already been disrupted by brexit

but i know that you would know that
only about 5 years warning

A sensible person would have set the other .co.uk mirror 4+ years ago

I voted Brexit. I don’t agree with where I believe EU is heading, which is an EU superstate, as I have previously discussed many times (I am not xenophobic but I think it unworkable for a number of reasons) and I stand by that. However, I also believed we would have a Parliament ‘big enough’ to put aside party politics and that would set aside differences in the ‘greater good’ to assemble the best possible team not only from Parliament but experts in the relevant fields (law, business and business negotiations etc) to negotiate an orderly and mutually beneficial withdrawal agreement with the EU, to enable both the UK and EU to grow side by side but independent of each other. The more time has passed, and the more squabbling, self interest, corruption and incompetence I see, the more I can’t help but feel let down and that I have been (I have allowed myself to be) duped / deceived. I am disappointed in myself.

I can only apologise.

FWIW, I voted labour at the last 2 elections and lib-dem prior to that.

edited for typo only.
That's about where I am Guapo. A close relationship was not out of the question. Customs union and market membership but our of the political relationship.
