Shamima Begum refused return to UK

Don’t normally get involved in threads like this but for me this is fabulous news. Who knows what she was capable of she came back here. You live and die by your decisions at times and she may of made the worst one ever and ruined her life.
Totally agree with you Block21. I am also pretty sure that if we had still been in the EU then this decision would be overturned in Strasbourg!

I too am conflicted on this one - she was 15 when she left, that’s very young.

I’m not sure I buy the argument that she can’t be represented from the camp she is in and must be in the UK - she manages to get press in there when it suits her so why not her lawyer.

im sure we haven’t heard the last of this.

I am not conflicted one iota on this. Well done the Supreme Court and the UK Government. Unfortunately, she still has the right to her appeal against her loss of citizenship, it is just she can’t return to fight it so she has lost the battle but hopefully she will lose her appeal when heard. Common sense prevails, the protection of our people has to be paramount over the so called rights of one individual. Hopefully, this sends a strong message to any would be Jihadis

This is a sticky point for me. My mate works in a counter terrorism unit and makes a great point that if a 15 year old girl is groomed by a pedophile we aim for the pedophile and try support the girl who was brainwashed. But in this case we demonise her. I have to admit I was totally on the other side of this until I thought that through. She was an undeveloped immature child that was deliberately targeted 🤷🏻‍♂️ Not saying it’s right or wrong, but there is definitely a disconnect there I think.

Yes I’ve often pondered the same thing. However a child that is groomed by a Paedophile doesn’t directly go and join a terrorist organisation. Difficult one

I don’t believe membership of the EU had any effect on the judgement. We are still a member of the ECHR.

We still have the Human Rights Act in legislation. The decision of the Supreme Court will have taken that Act into account.

A child? CTC not many 15 year olds- girls in particular- are children. They are generally physically mature young women.

Your forgiveness may be viewed by some as admirable- I see it as misplaced

Wasn't she forced into marrying someone and having their child? There's also been plenty of paedophile cult leaders, which many would view as terrorists.

Child..... just, age is but a number. She was about 6 months short of her 16th birthday when she left. In parts of the UK 16 yr olds have the right to vote. Lets not pretend she is anything other than what she is, a terrorist.

I think this logic is flawed. Imagine if people applied this defence to other areas of the law.

Or the way her community are treat here perhaps?
Treat? By who Corcaigh?

Have you seen the way some of her community have treat their own community at times or is it ok to turn a blind eye to that? This is not about racism, this is about terrorism. ’Her community’ as you call it are people with behaviours, just like you or I have behavioural traits. The vast majority being law abiding citizens like you or I making their way in life grateful for their freedoms within the wider UK life.

We have laws in this country that apply to everyone who lives here, we all choose our path within the constraints life deals us, we do so in the knowledge of the law of the land. These laws are there to protect individuals and communities and the British way of life and our ever evolving wonderful, vibrant cultural development. Anyone who does not like the way this country operates has a voice but they also have a choice, they can always look to choose another path elsewhere, but if they do, they must accept the consequences of those choices and decisions.
