Sheffield Uniteds PL budget.

They wont be able to clog their way past the likes of Man City / Arsenal / United / Liverpool / Brighton / Chelsea / Villa, etc.
They`l be made mincemeat of.
An that old carthorse will be skinned like a rabbit if he thinks he can compete against the likes of Haaland, Archer, Watkins, Mahres, etc, etc.
Sander Berge, Anel Ahmedhodzic, Iliman Ndiaye.. they could be alright

They could do with signing Adama Traore on a free and if I were them I’d be looking to sign Philip Billing from Bournemouth too.. Nat Philips from Liverpool?

£20m doesn’t go far.. but you can see where it would be effective

David Soria - Getafe - Free

Ola Aina - Torino - Free
Nat Philips - Liverpool - £10m
Facundo González - Valencia - Free
Sead Kolasinac - Marseille - Free

Adama Traoré - Wolves - Free
Ross Barkley - Nice - Free
Philip Billing - Bournemouth - £10m
Mohamed Elyounoussi - So’ton - Free

Josh Maja - Bordeaux- Free
Jordan Ayew - Crystal Palace - Free

They don't need to though. They only need to do less badly than 3 others.

Even if Coventry last a season - it will cover all their debts and stand them financially in good stead for a few years. (y)
That’s what I don’t get about Luton.. £10m for Stadium improvements and £100m on a new stadium to be built later this year.

Pfft £8m on MK Dons.. sell all the players, sell off Luton’s stadium for housing and keep hold of the £100m to be spend on the new stadium.

No point being in debt and not competing. Moving to MK Dons would be like Stockton moving to Darlington. No biggie imo

Wimbledon to Milton Keynes was like Boro moving to Leeds.. get them in the bin!

better than giving all the premier league money to mercenary players like we did and we stunk it out anyway.
We didn't stink it out until Steve Agnew took over, and there was always a Tony Pullis led WBA to challenge for that accolade, but agree on the rest particularly from January of that season.

the prem is a Tale of Two Halfs ... the top and bottom .... Getting points against the lower half teams is priority for survival... The top half will continue to be a huge gulf ... daunting to be amongst saudi backed clubs with seemingly endless budget .... Getting spanked everyweek as well

I thought they did well in their first season when they were last promoted and their manager was manager of the season. Not sure how much they spent and who they signed but it worked for them then, so I'm not sure the sniping comments about their approach are deserved and come across as a bit of envy and resentment, I guess time will tell, but I hope it works for them.

It's 25 miles from Luton to MK. That's not Stockton to Darlington. It's more like Middlesbrough to Durham, or Sunderland. Would you be ok with that?

2 Prem loans and 2 from mainland Europe, couple of frees and 1-2 for the £20m. Probably won't be enough. They look to have 11 players out of contract in June, not to mention all the loans going back so I assume that some of those will be re-signed.

They still have a reasonable spine of a team: probably slightly better than ours would have been if we had been promoted
Ahmedhodzic, Egan, Bogle, Berge, Ndiaye vs Lenihan, Howson, Hackney, Akpom, McGree, Forss
The likes of Norwood and McBurnie would probably re-sign if offered.
They might get McAtee back. You could also see them looking at the likes of Archer and Giles as signings as they both fit their pattern of play really well.

I suspect the real agenda is the owner looking to sell and putting in the absolute minimum of money in the meantime. I suspect there would be a reasonable number of buyers looking to buy a Premier league "bargain".

Straight back down for me. They may have bulldozed their way though the championship playing spectacularly awful football but I can't see that schtick working in the EPL. Heckingbottom has maxed out his level as well.

They're the team that will probably finish bottom.

That squad of theirs needs huge investment to compete in the PL.

I fancy either of Luton or Coventry to finish higher than them.

I don't remember it like that?

As time wore on with AK in charge we got progressively worse and we now know that the dressing was split and broken.

Was Agnews first have Sunderland? In any case I thought we played OK in that have, at least there was some passion and drive from us.

Of course it's easy with hindsight, but I think we were a busted flush the back end of that session.

So if Sheff Utd directors are only giving £20m for recruitment (presumably that figure will be purchases AND wages, as seems to be the way when discussing transfer budgets) what is happening to the remaining £115m they are getting from the PL?

I think his first game was against Hull. The 'shackles were off' apparently.
Started well and took an early lead but lost 4-2.

Sunderland was his first (and only) win a few games later.

* Just checked. His first game was a 3-0 defeat at home to Man Utd. Hull was his third game. Sunderland his 7th.

Pay their debts off (and what they owe other clubs for transfer installments) and hope any potential EFL action on their financial shenanigans just "goes away".

I think maybe my brain has blanked these memories out, a bit like people who can't remember car crashes they've been involved in.

Ak did ok up to the begining of December then our performances became lacking, but even so most teams who are struggling go through an even more dire patch for a little while and some manage to turn it around., if he hadn't lost the plot after West Ham he might stayed on, rather than having the totally lacklustre Steve Agnew come in and take us down.
